Dell Venue 8 Pro will *only* charge on Dell wall wart
No matter what kind of USB charger or plug I connect my Dell Venue 8 Pro (5830) to, it will NOT charge. If I plug it into the official Dell charger I received with the tablet, it'll charge just fine. I've tried 2A chargers (wall and auto) galore, and the Venue rejects all of them. It won't charge off a standard USB port either. Am I really supposed to order 20 different Dell chargers just to keep this thing juiced up? I was hoping to use this on the road, but if I can't keep it charged in the car there's really no point.
Is this an example of Dell following Apple's lead and locking the consumer into Dell accessories?

It could be that your charging port has been damaged. My 2 DV8P tablets are problems. One I just sent out for repair to have the charging port replaced. The other will only charge with the Dell charger, but only if I very gently insert the plug. Not all the way, but just barely touching the port. I suspect I will have to send it to be replaced also.

Actually, I think the charging port itself is fine. Though it's a bit hard to get the plug in at times, I've been fairly careful with the port and cable. I seem to be able to use about any cable, but it HAS to be connected to the bloody Dell charger to get any juice.

That is strange. When my DV8P was working I could charge it almost anywhere with anything. One charger was low amps and would only barely keep the current charge while in use. But the tablet was. at least, taking some load anyway. Have you updated BIOS and chipset lately? I hesitate to mention it because that seems to be every "experts" answer to any problem. But, if you are desperate then it may call for desperate measures.

The USB data pins on the tablet must be shorted together in order to charge it. That is what tells the tablet that it is connected to a high power charger. The Dell charger has the short build in. If you want to use another charger, you'll have to find a cable with a build in short, or modify one yourself.
