Dell venue 7 tablet 3740

I just purchased a new venue 7 tablet and am downloading apps. I have a SD inserted and when I download apps they go to the tablet and I would like to transfer them to SD card.  On my old tablet I could go to settings/apps and there was an option to move to SD card or move back to tablet.  I cannot find where to transfer them to the SD. My e=mail is      please help.

Bette,I can't help you and from the sound of things no one else can either -- because Dell -- for some unknown reason -- won't allow apps to be stored on the SD card. This hugely limits the functionality of the tablet and from what I can gather Dell is completely unresponsive on this matter. I have a 3840 and the same thing is apparently true -- since my tablet was free, I can't complain, but you might consider returning your tablet for a refund.

Dell's customer and technical support has bottomed out in recent years and there is no sign that Michael Dell or anyone else in the company cares. In the long run, unless they made improvements, I would normally expect this neglect to spell the end of Dell. However, these days it doesn't seem like any corporations care about support. It's all about maximizing profits and minimizing service.

I hope I'm wrong and there is a way to save apps to the SD card, but I've read in several places that it can't be done.

Good Luck.

Mason unfortunately my tablet was free also. I contacted Dell tech and was told that you definitely cannot store apps on the SD card but you can store music and photos on it.  I have not found how though. Thank you for your reply and yes I am not happy with the Dell tablet. I also have an Asus which is much faster and you can move your apps back and forth. I had a gift card for the Dell and got it so my grandson could use the Asus but now I am going to let him have the Dell and take back my other tablet.

Apps can't be saved to the SD card because of the version of Android (4.4) installed on the Venue 7. This is a change Google made, which they reversed course on in newer versions (AndroidL or 5.0).

The only fix for this issue is upgrading the tablet operating system to Android Lollipop, also called 5.0. Dell does not (currently) offer an over-the-air (OTA) upgrade for the Venue 7 for Android 5.0.

If you are tech-savvy, you can root (jailbreak, as the kids like to say), your Venue 7 and install the latest version of Android. If you are not tech-savvy, be aware that doing so can render your tablet useless (brick it) and, likely, void your Dell warranty.

Hi

I have purchased a 64 GB SD card for my Dell Venue 7 3740 table but not able to transfer any apps to SD Card. I tried with different apps available in Google Play but was unsuccessful. Please let me know if there is any solution to this problem. Also please  let me know how to stores Photos / music in the SD card of Venue 7.

It is too bad you didn't see this thread before you bought the Dell Venue 3740. Dell has apparently chosen to simply abandon this tablet and the 3840. The fix for the app problem is for Dell to issue an update to Android 5.0, which they have shown no interest in doing. This is the kind of lack of support that is turning me away from buying any more Dell products. I've been a loyal Dell user for many, many years and I've gotten many friends to buy Dell products, but no more.

Dell no longer sells the 3740 and 3840 tablets. It seems that when they decided to stop selling them, they also decided to abandon the people who bought those products. An upgrade to Android Lollipop might make these two tablets a lot more useful. As it is, I barely use mine (I was lucky, mine was free). Dell has moved on, while owners of the 7" and 8" Android tablets are stuck with very limited functionality.

Someone else will have to help you with the SD music and photo storage question. When it became clear that Dell wasn't going to provide any help with these two tablets, I abandoned the idea of wasting money on an SD card.

(If you look at earlier entries in this thread, it seems there was talk of Dell upgrading to Lollipop. But that never happened -- I suspect the word of a future upgrade may have been more wishful thinking than anything else.)

Good Luck!

Dell has become a huge disappointment to me. Eighteen or twenty years ago Dell had excellent customer and technical support. They really seemed to care about giving customers a good product and good service. As time passed, it seems like all PC manufacturers (and tech gear makers in general) gave up on the idea of supporting their products. Dell seems to have led the way in this respect. Today, they sell a product, if it doesn't sell well, they abandon it and stop supporting it. An upgrade to Android Lollipop seemed like an obvious move for Dell's Venue 7 and 8 Android tablets, but it looks like Dell figures those two tablets were losers and they don't care about the people who bought them. That makes the two tablets even worse losers than they might have been. I suspect a lot of people who got Dell Venue 7 and 8 tablets won't ever buy another tablet from Dell.

I am so disappointed with my Dell 7" 3740. I have not used it since my initial purchase in March. It is much easier to use my ASUS. The Dell was purchased with a Dell gift card as I would not have purchases another tablet if it was not free. I wonder why Dell will not stand by it's customers. I do not have anything good about their product.

It really bugs me that Dell won't just tell us if these two tablets will get lollipop or not. It is totally ridiculous that Dell won't nor ever has supported these tablets and their customers. Mine was a Christmas gift from my wife. I made the huge mistake of going off of what I thought was a good reputation of Dell. WOW was I ever wrong. This tablet is totally useless. I baby even browse the web. How sad is that. Dell took a lot of money from god people, turned their back on them and probably laughed at us all the way to the bank. At this point I really hope that Dell goes belly up and loses all their customers, then they would know how we feel.

I wish I thought someone at Dell ever read these comments. I've noticed that a lot of Dell's products have pretty poor customer ratings these days. The 7 and 8 inch Venue tablets could be so much better. One commenter says he or she barely uses the Internet. I can't tell you how often I get dropped from the Internet when I'm trying to do something -- even just read something. All of a sudden the screen goes black and I'm kicked back to the home screen. If I try again, I get dropped again. This has happened on too many sites for it to be their problem. I have the 8 inch Venue and if someone asked me what I think of it, I'd tell them I think it is an excellent alarm clock." I paid too much. Note: mine was free.

OS 4.4 is not the problem! It works on my other Android devices! Venue has a Hardware limitation/defect or their version of OS has the limitation! Dell ignoring this is another sign of  their lack of customer support! Products used to be pretty solid but seems to be waning these days?

I own the venue 8 3840. I liked the screen and the size but it is just too *** slow, unresponsive. It really ***, I can't afford to replace. It basically is an expensive paperweight. And Dell doesn't even care.

Mine was free also and I do not use it. I have an ASUS which is great. I only keep the Dell so if anything goes wrong with the ASUS I have a back up for a short time. Although the Dell cannot compare to the ASUS performance. My grandson uses it and he is only 6  years old so it gets a lot of heavy use.  Dell should get on the ball and create a fix for the 7 and 8 inch Venue tablets.
