Dell Venu 8 7840. OTA update fails

Android Version 5.0.2

All, I have Venu 8.  The updated downloads, seems like it's installing but then always fails.  No real reason is given.  I just geth OTA Update failed.

Any ideas why this is happening?

One thing I would recommend is checking storage. I have this tablet, and experienced similar issues. I would recommend clearing up about 25% space, and trying again. Frankly, the android update thinks it needs more space than it really does. You will have space left over after the update, but it needs to be clear beforehand.

Hey Phoenix...

I was getting the error indicating that it needed more space so I went and purchased an SD card.  That got me past the space error, but still getting the generic error message.  I'm currently resetting the device to factory defaults to see if that helps.

I'll let you know.  :)

After restoring to the factory image, i was able to run the os update just fine.  I realized though that I did it in haste and lost some good PDF files that I had on there. [:'(]

Sorry to hear that you lost the files. Been there and done that many times. I always try and make sure to back things up to the SD card, but I'm not always so successful in remembering.

I'm glad that the update worked for you. The SD card memory is not counted towards free space for Ota updates at times, so the free space needs to be on the device memory. The update definitely thought it needed more memory than it really did.

Might have figured it was a space issue - I've had nothing but problems with space on this thing. Who knew that 16 gigs wasn't going to be enough, and the SD card is basically worthless.

(don't mind me, I'm just venting - I've been nothing but disappointed by this guy tho, mine is pretty much just a streaming media player now, or occasionally a remote desktop).
