Dell Latitude 12 Rugged Tablet 7202

I am experiencing an issue with my Dell Latitude 12 Rugged Tablet 7202. When I press the power button, the button light turns on and I feel the vibration, which indicates that the device is trying to start. However, the screen remains completely black and does not display anything.

I would appreciate your assistance in diagnosing the problem and guiding me on how to resolve this issue. If there are any specific steps I should take, please let me know.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Hi

Press and hold the Power button for 11 seconds to perform a hard shut down/hard reset.

Rinse and Repeat.

I assume the Battery is in a good state of charge.

Hi

https://www.dell.com/support/product-details/en-us/product/latitude-7202-tablet/resources/manuals

Maybe something in the user manuals to help with troubleshooting.

Try without any batteries?

Remove battery & hold Power Button 30 seconds Hardware reset by discharging residual power Common Dell battery reset method

Then try and use it with only the PSU?

Hi, I tried removing the battery and holding the power button for 30 seconds but it didn't work. When you press the power button the lights on the bottom buttons turn on, but when you press the power button and the volume down button the lights turn white, red etc.

Hi

So when you tell me the fault with it, I can then tell you the fault with it...

The Dell Latitude 12 Rugged Tablet 7202 does have fault codes communicated through a diagnostic LED indicator integrated into the power button, which uses both coluor and pulse patterns (groups of flashes) to indicate specific hardware faults. These codes consist of two groups of repeated flashes with different colours (typically amber and white) that correspond to various component failures or issues.

Key fault codes for the Latitude 12 Rugged 7202 include:

LED Code Fault Description
2,1 CPU failure
2,2 Motherboard BIOS ROM failure
2,3 No memory detected
2,4 Memory failure
2,5 Invalid memory installed
2,6 Motherboard/Chipset error
2,7 LCD failure
3,1 RTC (CMOS battery) power failure
3,2 PCI or video card/chip failure
3,3 BIOS recovery image not found
3,4 BIOS recovery image invalid

These LED codes help identify hardware faults without needing access to the system BIOS or operating system diagnostics, useful especially in rugged or field environments where quick hardware troubleshooting is required.

Additionally, the tablet supports the Dell Enhanced Pre-Boot System Assessment (ePSA) diagnostics, which provides further hardware testing in the pre-boot environment.

If a fault code appears, typical troubleshooting steps include re-seating components such as memory or contacting Dell Support for more in-depth diagnostics or repairs for CPU, motherboard, or BIOS issues.

In summary, the Latitude 12 Rugged 7202 uses a single LED on the power button with colour and flash sequences to display fault codes, which can indicate a range of hardware problems, making it a valuable tool for diagnosing faults on this rugged tablet model.

So maybe video the flashing lights/LED's and report or post the sequence here, although you should be able to match in the table above.
