can you disable encryption on the 7840 with loly?
dont really care about encryption, and would like to speed up the tablet a little bit.
can we disable encryption. I looked all around in settings and could not find any way to unencrypt.
maybe bootloader?
Not sure how i feel about there not being an option to encrypt or not when installing loly..
Maybe its dells little way of saying f-you to us for complaining about not getting loly for months..

No way to turn off, once your tablet has been encrypted it's a done deal, no turning back the clock.
Yes, it's exactly a little up yours from Dell, the programmer is still slapping his leg laughing.
Oh well at least you got the update, hope other tablets also get it, if my tablet gets the update, I will download the update unpack it, turn off encryption then install the update.

Agreed. The forced encryption was bull****. For me, an unnecessary performance hit. Here's a good story about Dell forcing it without user consent.

Beside the Encryption, their much touted feature of wake up on pick is not working any more with 5.0.2 update. I would prefer a delayed update than having a half baked one.
Don't know what else may no longer be working, well, time will tell.

I for one haven't noticed any performance issues on this beyond "its too fast for me to just send back without at least trying".

Forcing encryption in Lollipop was a Google requirement. For Dell to implement Lollipop on this tablet, the rules set on them by Google required them to enable encryption. At some point recently Google changed their mind and removed the requirement, but by then Dell had already turned it on.
Also do any of you know if there is an actual performance hit on this chipset? I have no idea but from my use it certainly doesn't feel any slower.

I have plenty of issues with the Lollipop downgrade, but storage performance is not one. Of course, I also amuse to HDD performance. Perhaps someone with SSDs in their computers may think differently.

Since there is no performance hit. I can't see the downside to encryption.

encryption does impact performance and boot time, as well as other stuff, even though it doesn't affect you personally, it does affect others, anyway if you are happy with it, good luck to you.
