Best way to factory reset my Dell Venue 11 Pro (5130)
I would like to reset my Venue 11 back to factory but it looks like there are 2 ways to do this. First way I see is that I can go into the Windows settings then to Update & Recovery then remove everything and re-install Windows. Also I see that I can also go into the My Dell app and then do a restore from Factory Image. Which way is the cleanest? If I go through Windows will it restore all my Dell apps that came stock on this tablet?

I am using the Microsoft Windows 8 process. Created a Recovery USB drive using "Create Recovery Drive" without problems (on V11P 5130 and 7130 and V8P).
The Dell software caused nothing as problems to me resetting my system. On V8P The Dell software even has bug that you can't restore without having the system hooked to AC which you can't because you need the USB for the recovery drive.
Using the Windows recovery disk / drive installed all Dell applications and Office as well.
I also removed the recovery disk using the Windows 8 create recovery drive wizard.

If I do it this way, will all my factory Dell apps be re-installed also?

Thanks for posting. I was beginning to think it was just me. I'd really like to go through the Windows menu to restore my system, but I'm afraid it will wipe out the included Dell apps, including the Microsoft Office that came with the tablet.

So just to confirm- you used the Windows restore option, and when you logged back into the tablet, all of the Dell apps + Office was still there? Or did that require a separate process? Let me know. Thanks!

I don't know how you system is configured but if something failed after you installed an update or software you might also be able to reset your system to a specific date (Control Panel -> Recovery -> system restore)..

Not sure if a recover stick will work on a different machine because of drivers and what Windows is using e.g. OEM info.
But you should be able to create a install USB media on the Windows 8.1 system and boot from that USB on your V11P and use repair.
1.Run the Windows 8.1 Setup program.
2.When prompted to run or save the file, choose Run
3.enter a product key when prompted
4.When prompted to install Windows 8.1, select Install by creating media
5.Select USB as the media you want to use:
a.Click USB flash drive.
b.Plug the USB flash drive into a USB port on your PC.
c.When prompted, select the USB drive.

Just don't have the time to do a lot of testing and gave up. Really wanted to have my system dual boot Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu.
Got my info from here. Interesting read how users tried different settings / versions etc..
Maybe it helps you.

I have it working and running now. Used my aunt's 64 bit hp windows 8.1 desktop to create recovery usb for dell. Was able to boot into recovery finally, auto repair didn't work but I used cokmand prompt and these 4 commands: Bootrec /fixmbr
Bootrec /fixboot
Bootrec /scanos
Bootrec /rebuildbcd
That cleared all the problems. Just had to enter product key and now it works like normal.
Now, how do I run ubuntu off usb on dell venue 11 pro? I was able to boot feom it and hit try ubuntu and it just sits at blank black screen.
