what is the point of iDRAC's virtual floppy
Hello,
I have used iDRAC's virtual CD quit often for firmware updates (Dell Rx20 and newer) or for basic installation or recovery when network installation over PXE boot was not possible.
But I what is the point of iDRAC's virtual floppy, and what are it's rules?
Also, what is iDRAC's lcdrive (I have only seen this on iDRAC6).
Regards
Andreas

I'll give you an example of how I use the virtual floppy. I have an application that I use on a virtual floppy. I created a .img file using the idrac's "create image" function. I boot to a virtual cd of Centos, then I mount the virtual floppy. i can then run my application, AND any changes I make to the image are saved to the .img file. Now I can use the changed .img file on other systems if I need to. So basically, the .img file allows you to save changes you make, and the iso does not.

iDRAC Virtual Floppy can be used to connect Floppy drive, USB Drive or Disk Image files. Once connected it will be exposed to the server as a Mass Storage Device.

Hello Shine,
I am aware that "iDRAC Virtual Floppy" does something similar to "iDRAC virtual CD".
My question was:
"What is the point of this?"
"What can iDRAC Virtual Floppy do, that iDRAC virtual CD can not do?"
"e.g.: can iDRAC Virtual Floppy mount an image read/write instead of read-only?"

I have an application that mounts both ISO and IMG from HTTP server. iDrac is not allowing mounting these two simultaneously however local mount through iDRAC console can take both. It will be good for automation if simultaneous mounts are allowed from HTTP servers.

Can you share the iDRAC FW version you have on the server? Connecting ISO/IMG file from a share is Remote File Share feature which only support connecting one image (ISO or IMG) at a time
