What are the differences between iDRAC, Lifecycle Controller, and Unified Server Configurator?

No valid information could be obtained from the manual. Is the lifecycle controller the renamed USC?

Hello thanks for choosing Dell.

Unified server configurator is a lifecycle controller legacy option used in 11G server and is no longer available.

The lifecycle controller is a lightweight operating system that runs from the iDRAC. The LCC is loaded on demand, it is not continuously running.

The iDRAC can be accessed remotely. Many of the features available through the LCC are also available via the iDRAC.

More details about LCC and User guide can be found in the following links.

aswin gurung,

Indeed, you can. With the BIOS updates you would want to download the exe version, and with the iDrac you would need to extract the files from the download and then locate the firmimg.d# file to use, both would be updated from the Update and Rollback area of the idrac.

Let me know if this helps.

@aswin gurung Yes, follow what @DELL-Chris H  said, because the iDRAC versions are too different, which will cause the signature verification to fail.

Is this how you upgrade the BIOS from IDRAC?

Does the reboot is required after the BIOS upgrade  ?

@aswin gurung It may restart automatically, or it may not; there's no need to manually restart it.
