upgrade to OME 4.2.0.89

Hello,

we are upgrading to OME 4.2.0.89. Our second try seems to hang up again. The virtual server is pingable, the url is not reachable and the console of the virtual server is deep black, showing nothing, like a black box. I don't know, where to look for a solution to this menace.

regards

Hello,

Thank you for the additional details. Given your situation, here are some targeted troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the upgrade issue from OME 4.1.0 (Build 237) to 4.2.0.89:

  1. Revert to Snapshot:

    • Since you have a snapshot from before the upgrade attempt, revert the virtual machine back to that snapshot first to ensure that you can start fresh.
  2. Check for Compatibility:

    • Ensure that the new version (4.2.0.89) is compatible with the existing environment and any dependencies, as compatibility issues might cause the upgrade to fail.
  3. Check Existing Sessions or Tasks:

    • Even though the tasks should stop automatically, it's best to ensure that no lingering sessions or background tasks are running before attempting the upgrade again. You may want to check any management interfaces or logs, if accessible.
  4. Manual Upgrade Process:

    • Consider performing a manual upgrade rather than using the web GUI. This usually involves downloading the upgrade package and applying it via CLI or other methods, which might give you more control over the process.
  5. Logs Review:

    • After reverting, check the logs from the previous upgrade attempts. If accessible, they may provide clues about what went wrong during the installation.
  6. VM Resources:

    • Confirm that the VM has sufficient resources post-reversion. You might want to increase resources temporarily for the upgrade process in case this is causing issues.
  7. Network Configuration and Access:

    • Double-check any network configurations. If the web GUI is not accessible post-upgrade, ensure that there are no firewall rules blocking it.
  8. Boot Recovery Mode (if applicable):

    • If the situation arises again, you may need to access recovery mode, if supported by your system, to recover or access the console.
  9. Reach Out to Support:

    • If none of the steps work, you may want to contact the OME support team via hotline for assistance. Providing them with the upgrade attempt logs and exact behavior will help in diagnosing the issue.
  10. Upgrade Path:

    • Verify with the official upgrade documentation if there are any specific upgrade path requirements or recommendations, such as interim versions that may need to be installed first.

Hello,

At what point does the screen go black?

If you can; have you tried getting into the Text User Interface and Restart Services?

You may try reverting to snapshot, redownload the update and apply upgrade again?

HI, I've done the upgrade of OpenManage 4.2.0.89 already 3 times now and every time the same result.

There seems to be java errors and the system is no longer accessible.

Regards,

Hi,

What is the current version that you wanted to upgrade to version 4.2.0.89? How was the upgrade done?

Is there any running task in OME when the upgrade was done?

I tried updating once but it failed. Luckily my system still works. I then looked at the release notes and there was nothing of interest so I'm not trying it again.

Hello,

sorry, I didn't mention it, we are trying to upgrade from 4.1.0 (Build 237) to 4.2.0.89. The server restarts after downlaoding and installing the package over the web gui. The console screen stays black and the web gui doesn't start either. Only the ip addres reacts to a ping.

Luckily we took a snapshot before the upgrade. And no, we can't access the text console, it stays black. We already tried the upgrade twice, with the same result.

I'm not sure, if there was a running task, but as far as I understand the messages, the tasks should be stopped automatically before the upgrade starts.
