Third-Party Catalog for Configuration Manager Severity Classification Logic?
I want to know Dell's logic for selecting the severity classification for updates in the third-party catalog for Configuration Manager.
We utilize the TPCs for Dell, Lenovo, and Adobe with decent success but would like to limit the updates that we distribute this way solely to those that address CVEs. Lenovo accommodates this by using the "Critical" severity classification for any update that addresses a CVE or risk of data loss. In looking through the drivers offered by Dell, I only see "Important" and "Moderate" being used.
As others have mentioned, we also encounter the occasional errant update that wants to install over and over again, so our direct support staff would like for us to limit it to only the most critical drivers going out. So far, we have had very few of these from Dell but quite a lot from Lenovo. Limiting to only the drivers that address security issues is working much better for us as far as that vendor goes. After encountering a Dell driver this morning with that infinite reboot behavior, we wish to do the same with the Dell catalog.

Based on my observations, it seems that anything with CVEs are marked Important or Critical.
I hoped to find something official that outlines their methodology before acting on how I believe it works.

Hello semert,
I don't know that I would be able to get or share internal process but I can provide the official Dell page for Security Advisories and Notices :

Hi Charles,
Well, there should be nothing proprietary about how updates are classified for the third-party catalog as hiding that would moot the point of providing one. I am just finding that with all vendors of third-party catalogs, getting to the people that manage them is a bit difficult. So hopefully, if you can query the team and find out, that would be helpful. I just figured I would try here in case it has been asked before or someone else had the answer. If I cannot get my answer from this direction, I plan to get it via our sales rep team. I just hate to bother the crew if I can get what I need another way.

Hello semert,
If you are talking about classification, this may help:

If you have an issue and there is a Critical update available, applying this update should be your first step.
Recommended updates can help with certain issues seen, and improve stability. Dell recommends you update these at your next scheduled maintenance window.
The Optional updates are smaller and could introduce new features or other small tweaks. These updates are as it says, optional

Hi Charles,
I am afraid that does not apply to the Endpoint Configuration Manager classifications (soon to be called Intune Configuration Manager) of which I am inquiring about. Here is a pic showing the column I am interested in. I just need to know that there is a specific set of criteria for each classification and that it is not simply that Bob felt like setting the classification for Intel UHD/HD/Iris Plus/Iris Pro Graphics Driver,27.20.100.9664,A00 to Important that day just because he felt that way when he packaged that driver.
We deploy drivers using an automated process that chooses them based on criteria such as the severity classification in CM. Hence, it is important to understand how each vendor utilizes those criteria as each can do it their way. A rule I make for the Lenovo or HP third-party catalog will not necessarily work for the Dell third-party catalog.

Hi Charles,
That document is certainly about the third-party catalog. Specifically, it explains how to set up the third part catalog in Configuration Manager. However, nowhere did the authors explain how the severity category would be leveraged for Dell's updates. So I am afraid my quest continues.
