To remove the domain and switch to a workgroup on a Windows 2008 R2 server, you need to ensure the domain controller is no longer active. First, make sure you are logged in with an account that has local administrative rights. Then, go to System Properties > Computer Name and click on Change Settings. From there, select Workgroup and enter a workgroup name. If the domain is still active, you may need to demote the server using the DCPromo tool or remove it from Active Directory before making this change. Once the server is demoted and no longer part of the domain, you can successfully switch to a workgroup.

Hello, this question should be directed to and best addressed by MS since you are looking for OS support. Also Windows 2008 went EOL around 5 years ago FYI.
