RAC0225: Sending the test mail failed
Hi guys,
In iDRAC Settings -Settings-SMTP (Email) Server Settings:
SMTP Email Server address: smtp.gmail.com
Sender email address: email@address
SMTP port number: 587
Authentication: Enabled
username: email@adress
password: App password
In iDRAC Settings -Network-Common Settings:
Register iDRAC on DNS: Disabled
Auto Config Domain Name: Disabled
Static DNS Domain Name: host.domain.local
In iDRAC Settings -Network-IPv4 Settings:
Static Preferred DNS Server: 8.8.8.8
Static Alternate DNS Server: 192.168.2.21 (domain controller IP)
Alert emails fail to be sent.
is there any way to find out hat exactly prevents or blocks alert emails from being sent?

Hi @DELL-Young E ,
Thanks for advising the tool.
I run a couple of test: ICMP and Name Resolution
ICMP returned result: pingable
Name Resolution returned result: could not resolve the hostname
DNS servers are set as below:
Static Preferred DNS Server: 8.8.8.8
Static Alternate DNS Server: 192.168.2.21 (domain controller IP)
I know that outbound traffic is not filtered on a firewall.
Should I try some other DNS servers?

Hello,
"Static Alternate DNS Server: 192.168.2.21 (domain controller IP)"
We need to know if the hostname DNS record for this is proper.

Hi @DELL-Young E
I set up real AD domain name under Static DNS Domain Name.
I created a NDS records for iDRAC host.
I use Microsoft 365 email with office address excluded from MFA.
Sending emails still doesn't work.

Hello, is this the only SMTP needing the troubleshooting? What about other ones?

Hi @DELL-Marco B
In the link you provided it seems this helped.
# racadm set idrac.RemoteHosts.ConnectionEncryption None
[Key=idrac.Embedded.1#RemoteHosts.1]
Object value modified successfully
Unfortunately, it is not clear what exactly was done.
Do you happen to know what was that?

Hi @it_tech_22,
The command disables/sets the connection encryption to none. This is for external email servers that does not support encryption, the default protocol is StartTLS.

Hi All,
Eventually on the PowerEdge R740 server with iDRAC 9 I was able o make SMTP alerts working with M365 MX record + adding the company's public IP in connector settings.
However, the same configuration with the same DNS servers on PowerEdge R440 (iDRAC9) and PowerEdge R730 iDRAC8 doesn't.

Hello @it_tech_22 ,
Just wondering if the firmware level of the iDRAC9 on R440 and R740 are the same?
I've read some forums stating that users are putting SMTP server's IP address instead, can you try?
I also found this, unsure it can help, let's cross check the recommended by users and their suggestion: https://serverfault.com/questions/930841/idrac-9-enterprise-smtp-alerts-w-office-365
