R740 Lifecycle controller - Firmware Update
I have one of four R740 that I cant update vis the website or https via the lifecycle controller. When I try, I get the error "Firmware Update Invalid share name or repository location" I have reset the iDrac to default and even used the IP and network cable from a working one but still it does not work.

MarkysL,
I would need more details from you, specifically the update link you are using and how you are connecting to update.
On a side note, it may be an easier option to update via a Platform Specific ISO, as outlined here.
Let me know.

I have tried both the first option and also the website using HTTPS downloads.dell.com via the Lifecycle controller but both give the warning Invalid IP address or Share Name

Interestingly if I use HTTP and the IP I now get the error Unable to install Update Packages (SUP0531)

Hello, Could you check what happens if you choose HTTP? If still getting warnings, also please try to put this IP address "143.166.28.19" instead of "downloads.dell.com"
I'm not sure what iDRAC version the server has but it could be related below explanation.
14G PowerEdge Servers (iDRAC9) - HTTPS download support was added to iDRAC/ Lifecycle Controller update interfaces in the iDRAC9 3.30.30.30 firmware release.
iDRAC9 firmware release 3.34.34.34 will fix issues connecting to Dell's online repositories.
Dell EMC Engineering advises that users should leverage the https protocol and direct to downloads.dell.com to access the online catalog
If none of them work I would take a look at other update methods here. https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000128194/updating-firmware-and-drivers-on-dell-emc-poweredge-servers

I was not able to do updates in the LiveCycle controller using the site name either. It did work using the IP address. When I ping downloads.dell.com from a command line on my laptop it comes back as e12616.dscd.akamaiedge.net [23.212.72.53]. This may be why using the site name does not work in the LiveCycle controller.

If you try a Name instead of an IP this required a propper DNS and also the permission for outgoing traffic.
If you use LCC and select one of your onboard NICs for communication think about if you need a VLAN (especially when you run normaly vSphere ESXi on your server). The iDRAC with its dedicated ports often have an untagged VLAN konfig on the switch port.

Hi
The issue you are getting is because the idrac firmware is further out of date from the catalog repository, I have expreienced this issue many times. It is easy to resolve and you just need to download the idrac firmware onto a computer, after running the executable on a computer you will have the option to install or expand, select expand and this will give you a idrac firmware file with a d9 extension. Log into the idrac of the server and click maintenance and system update, from here you can upload the d9 firmware image, follow the instructions for installing and wait, you will notice the fans ramp up after a period of time, this is the idrac rebooting and is expected. Once all is complete you can then update the remaining firmware as normal. Just a side note if you try to update the idrac firmware while the server is in the idrac settings page of the bios or in the lifecycle controller itself the update will fail.
Below is a link to the idrac file required
https://dl.dell.com/FOLDER10031946M/1/iDRAC_6.10.80.00_A00.exe
Hope this helps

For those experiencing the same problem, you probably haven’t set your DNS. Check your DNS settings.
