Motheboard swapped, service TAG restored but imposible to import iDRAC enterprise license
Hi,
I bought a PowerEdge R520 on ebay but there was an issue with the MoBo (some bent pins on CPU2's socket) plus the iDRAc was completely zapped (had to restore through SD-Card recovery).
The seller sent a replacement motherboard from another machine. I swapped the motherboard, used the support ISO to set the original service TAG matching previous MoBo (while of course keeping the same iDRAC and other cards).
I used another official ISO to set a 30-day enterprise trial on the iDRAD in order to be able to access it through a browser and install the license downloaded from the digital locker but I receive the following message:
Seems to me there are leftovers somewhere of previous motherboard's identity. How to restore the enterprise license correctly?
My trial expires on jan 15th: would be great to find a solution by then
Thanks!

Hello, have you got a Dell Digital locker account? If so you can download from there or you can simply call for support line with your service tag handy. Wish you a good one. https://www.dell.com/support/incidents-online/en-us/contactus/dynamic

Hello alessandro_tiberti_b
By using Young's suggestion and contacting Support directly, they can regenerate a new license for you in case the one you have is corrupted like the error shows.
If you are not able to contact support directly please let me know and I can start the process to verify authorization. Please be sure you have processed an ownership transfer for the R520 to put it into your name.
This will take more time that contacting support. I don't have anyone in the Social Media team to do this at the moment.

Hello alessandro_tiberti_b,
You would need to have the asset in your name before anyone can work with you. That goes for contacting directly or the forum when dealing with private information such as iDRAC licenses.
I'll provide the transfer forms link for you:
Ownership Transfer form
https://dell.to/3Vw97s7
Ownership Transfer and Dell Product Registration Guides
It describes what to do for third-party purchases (like Ebay)
https://dell.to/3FYbz4Y
The Small Business number would be a good one for you to use.

Sure, I will do so. There has been no property transfer: I bought the server from a company that refurbishes dismissed IT products; I have an invoice but it doesn't mention the S-TAG/Expr. svc code.
Original purchase was a German order and I don't speak any German. Which support should I contact? If I enter the S-TAG and go to international support, I'm given the following options:
Home Users OOW warranty: 1-800-288-4410 7 AM to 12AM Central Time
Small Business (1-499 employees): 1-800-822-8965 Large Business (500+ Employees) 1-800-456-3355 24x7
DDPE and Airwatch :1-877-459-7304 ext: 6236710 24x7
Thx!

Did you extracted the xml file from downloaded ZIP file for uploading to iDRAC? You can refer below link for steps to obtain iDRAC Enterprise licenses from Dell Digital Locker

Shine, "Did you extract the file?" I would say so considering the first 5 rows are:
http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig#" xmlns:xsi=" http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:lns=" http://www.dell.com/2011/12G/licensing">
true
Charles, it is obvious that I cannot ask for a transfer as I don't know who the owner is; which I already knew before starting this thread: that's been addressed multiple times in previous posts.
Given that the license is the right one as I downloaded it (yes, multiple times) from the digital locker, back to my starting point and 3 questions:
Seems to me there can only be max 2 yes answers the these 3 questions
Any other solution you can provide beside rearming the eval license every 30 days ?
Thanks,
Alessandro

Hello,
The iDRAC license is tied to the service tag only. The tag won't change it should remain the same as when you first ordered and received from the factory. If you get a new motherboard and put in a wrong tag, you have to replace the board again.
All the other products' license can also be downloaded from Digital locker. If you think you are seeing some wrong information please get in touch with tech support by call or email for correction. But again, verifying ownership must be preceded.

Ok, thanks, question 1 of 3 answered.
"If you get a new motherboard and put in a wrong tag, you have to replace the board again. ": why? I was able to change the Serivce TAG myself using the SLI Iso downloaded from Dell's website.
Waiting for ans answer to questions 2 and 3.

Hi, I don't know if the licenses in the DLL are always correct, but why not. As far as I know, licenses working with ST are stored there.
- The Service Tag can only be entered when the Service Tag field is empty.
- After the Service Tag is entered, it cannot be updated or changed. Ensure that you enter the correct Service Tag.
- Incorrect service tag entry will require a system board replacement to input the correct service tag.

Hi Erman,
the sentence " After the Service Tag is entered, it cannot be updated or changed. " does not seem consistent with me being able to change the service TAg of a replacement motherboard (from another server, so with a previous service TAG) I received and Dell providing publically and officially a tool (SLI ISO available here) in order to do so. Can you clarify?
Thanks!

Hi sure, you can see it in the article here. https://dell.to/3hVSGHG The situation you mention requires a technician intervention that requires responsibility, and the users will be responsible for unauthorized interventions. In this sense, one must be careful. This process is usually performed by the technician on the site after the motherboard replacement.
