For the PowerEdge R740XD, here are the upgrade paths for iDRAC and BIOS:
iDRAC Upgrade Path (5.10.10.00 to 7.00.00.181)
Direct Upgrade: No, you cannot upgrade directly from iDRAC version 5.10.10.00 to 7.00.00.181.
Recommended Path:
Upgrade to 6.00.00.00 (or the latest version in the 6.x series).
Then upgrade to 7.00.00.181.
BIOS Upgrade Path (2.14.2 to 2.24.0)
Direct Upgrade: Yes, you can upgrade directly from BIOS version 2.14.2 to 2.24.0.
Recommended: Always check the Dell Support Site for the latest BIOS release notes to confirm compatibility and any intermediate steps.

Hi, I'd like to share these two links with you:The list of Minimum-Supported Code, Recommended, and Latest Code versions and PowerEdge: Methods and Steps to Update Firmware and Drivers | Dell US
Hope that helps!

Hello Martin/Erman,
I have a PowerEdge R540 at the same version, 5.10.10.00 and BIOS version 2.13.3. Would this process work the same in my case?
Thanks,
CJW

Hello CJTW, it is always recommed that you follow this. R540 is a 14G server.

@DELL-Young E
Thank you, Young. While the link you gave me tells me what I should have currently, the upgrade path to this destination is what Martin provided. I cannot simply install the latest BIOS and iDRAC F/W without going through several upgrades (except in the case of the BIOS), first.
I am looking for that path, and I believe Martin provided the idea I should follow. From 5.10.10.00 to 7.00.00.183, I must first install 6 (whatever the latest version of that is).
Thanks again for providing the link to the R540; it will make downloading the patches much easier.
Best,
CJW

Hi all, should I be posting in an R540 page?

Ok, to the point. If I am upgrading to 7 from 5, and am supposed to do 6 first, why doesn't the iDRAC firmware automatically make that a prerequisite?
Can I do a direct upgrade?
Thanks,
CJW
