iDRAC 9 Virtual Console Blank after adding a PCIe Graphics Controller

Hello,

After adding a NVIDIA Quadro P2200 Graphics Controller, the screen of the iDRAC 9 Enterprise Edition went blank on our Dell T150. I know this is normal behaviour but we also enabled the onboard Graphics Controller in the BIOS so imho it should work.

Any idea if this is possible?

Kind Regards

Hello RLM Benelux,

I would first note that we have not validated any GPU for the T150. I'll post you a comparison of a T150 and T550 to let you see T150 does not have validated GPU wile a T550 does as example.

T150 spec sheet - no GPU options

T550 spec sheet - GPU options listed

The blank screen is what you would see with an add-in video card as described here:

You can try this to use video output ports from GPU cards - Go to BIOS to disable onboard video port first.

Other than that, we can see if anyone in the community has successfully used a GPU on a T150 and can share their experience.

Hello Charles,

Thank you for the quick reply and clear explanation.

We did know that there wasn't (strangely enough) a 3th party graphic controller available for the T150. The T550 was pricewise a bit out of range for us.

We did try the option to disable the built-in onboard video in the bios, but we did get a blank (black) screen in the iDRAC9 Virtual Console.

Enabling the onboard video gives us a clear video until the login screen of Windows Server 2022, after this the screen on the Virtual Console goes to black. Should anyone login on the console of the server then we get video again in the Virtual Console. We even can click, trough the Virtual Console, on a desktop icon which opens a program. In the Virtual Console we can't see this opened program, but the user at the console does see the opened program..

Very strange behaviour, maybe someone did find a solution to use the Virtual Console in a T150 with a unsupported 3th party graphics controller.

Kind regards,

RLM Benelux
