iDRAC 8 - Dell M630 - BIOS update - "An internal error occurred. Unable to complete the specified operation."
Each time in am logged into the iDRAC web interface and go to iDRAC Settings / Update and Rollback -- then choose a local file... then it begins the upload and once it reaches 100% i get the error immediately - An internal error occurred. Unable to complete the specified operation. This happens for no matter what I try to upgrade BIOS, iDRAC, NIC firmware etc...
i tried to reset the iDRAC clear its settings... etc.. nothing helps.
also a strange note: in the iDRAC "Server Overview" there is information missing. Like BIOS and Firmware version and stuff. (see image below)
another observation - when I go into the lifecycle controller. if I try to check dell repository for firmware updates... I get an error. if I even try to get a firmware inventory report.. I get an error.
Any ideas of what could be wrong and some ideas on how to fix?
Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, thanks for choosing Dell.
I would say power on the server first, then check how it is in idrac?
Respectfully,

Hello leroyl,
Could you try drain the flea power on the blade and try update again?
To drain flea power - shut down the blade, remove from chassis and hold in the power button for 20 seconds. Reinstall the blade, power up and check results.
Have you tried the update from the OS or boot in to LifeCycle Controller <F10> and supply the windows .exe file in the LCC?
I don't see the image you mentioned in the first post. Could you re-attach it?

Charles,
thanks for the suggestion I will give draining the flea power a try..
here is the image below
i have tried to update from the LCC and the Dell Bootable ISO... all fails
the server works perfectly except i just cannot report on my firmware versions or update anything from the OS, LCC or iDRAC.

also here is some additional info... i was able to SSH to the iDRAC and with RACADM use the 'fwupdate' command and upload an older version of the iDRAC via TFTP... this worked. however my other issue still exist with an older version of the iDRAC\LC.

Hi,
Can you confirm that your chassis CMC firmware is also up-to-date or equivalent?
Have you tried iDRAC reset?

Hello,
Were you able to try a flea power drain?
Check if you have Collect System Inventory on Restart (CSIOR) enabled
-boot to F2 -> System Setup -> iDRAC Settings -> Lifecycle Controller to check status
-Choose: Lifecycle Controller set to Enabled
-Collect System Inventory on Restart set to Enabled.
-Cancel Lifecycle Controller Actions set to Yes. (this is a one-time flag and does not disable LCC actions)
Try install iDRAC Service Module in the host and see how it reports:

You may also reset DRAC configuration, then reconfigure the DRAC
try racadm racresetcfg
