Dell UPS Network management card default password doesn't seem to work
Hello,
so I am trying to access my UPS network management site but seems like my password doesn't work. Is there any way to reset this to default setting so I can setup a new password?

Hook up a serial with the connection parameter of 9600/8/1/n and reset the password back to default. The default password is "admin".
We are talking about a old Dell UPS which is a labeld EATON one right? https://dl.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_rack_infrastructure/dell-line-interactive-rack-ups-2700r_user's%20guide14_en-us.pdf
If you have a APC branded dell ups than you have to press the reset button on the card for about 30sec.

Joerg

Take a look on page #10 of the PDF i linked above. You need the RJ45<->RS232 cable which comes with the UPS/NMC.
If youre on a Windows PC just download putty.exe(the exe is enough...no *.msi or so) . If you start putty.exe just select the serial option in the upper right. The baud rate should be 9600 and all the default are already set. To verify them you can take a look to the serial option in the lower left.
If you connect to a serial you have to press "enter" a couple of time. The eaton NMC will show you a menu like list and there is a option for reseting the password.

Hello Joerg, thank you for your reply Yes, my UPS doesn't have reset button.
Now, I am pretty green when it comes to this stuff, so I have additional questions:
- can you elaborate what kind of cable do I need and where it should be plugged? How do I go an set up the parameters you mentioned?

Okay, I get it. I managed to connect my computer to UPS card, but Putty doesn't work, just shows black window after choosing options you described and clicking 'Open'. Card green light is flashing so it means it at least functional? I don't think my computer is able to see the device though.

To be sure.... its the right port on the NMC..... NOT the left one. On your windows pc please open the windows device manager and check which COM ports exists and whats the name .... COM1, COM2 ..... and so on. Try one after another with PUTTY and be sure than you click the mouse into the back window and hit the enter key a couple of times.
Does your PC have a phys. serial connector or do use use a RS232->USB converter?

Okay, just to be clear:
I have tried to connect with serial connector but computer was pretty old and now I am trying to do the same I use Unitek US converter.
It is plugged in the back to SETTINGS socket and my Windows sees USB converter in Device Manager as port COM11.
But when choose it in Putty and hit 'Open' it gives me only blank console window. The same happens when I switch different COMs in Putty it makes no difference
