Dell EMC iDRAC Service Module
Hello,
I am trying to use Update Manager to install the Dell EMC iDRAC Service Module on two new ESX hosts. Hosts are on ESXi 6.7U3. I downloaded the version of the Dell EMC iDRAC Service Module for 6.7U3 but when I did a compliance check it said it was non-compliant. I also tried entering the service tag directly, going to Downloads, and downloading the version of the tool from there (which was a newer one) but I still got the noncompliance message. Any ideas?

Wait a second. While reading up on how to install this via Update Manager, I read something that may imply that "non-compliant" simply means you've established a new baseline - that the software should be installed - and it's "non-compliant" because it's not installed! So then you would move forward with staging and then remediation. Is that accurate? If so I will just go back to the original software. If that is correct, there was never an issue with the first installer in the first place.

Hi,
What server model that you're trying to install iSM on? Update Manager, would that be VMware vSphere Update Manager? You were stating compliance check, could you let us know what software would that be? Do you have a screenshot of the compliance status?

Yes, the correct one should be this: https://dell.to/3rjNFYg
Could you please try this steps for installation:
Download:
1. Click the Download File link to download the zip file. (Do not unzip the file after download)
Installation:
1. Login to the system running VMware Vsphere Client or vCenter-Server
2. Bring the intended ESXi host into Maintenance Mode
3. If you are using vSphere Update Manager (VUM) in ""Admin View"", first import the ZIP file in Patch Repository. Then add ""Dell EMC iDRAC Service Module for VMware ESXi"" to the desired host or group baseline before Staging or Remediating Patches.
4. The ZIP file can also be installed using remote PowerCLI tools as well as uploading the ZIP to a datastore and using an SSH client to run the following CLI command: esxcli software vib install -d ""/vmfs/volumes/[datastore path]/ ISM*.zip""
Note: iDRAC Service Module does not require a hypervisor reboot after installation. Once installed remove the host from Maintenance Mode."
Please, let us know if this works.
Regards.

They are R440s. I've tried both version ISM-Dell-Web-3.5.1-1949.VIB-ESX6i-Live_A00 and version , and I get the same results. See screen shots below for an example from the first one.
This is the link to the one I used in the screen shots. We are on 6.7U3 which is why I chose this one.

I also searched the service tag, went to drivers and downloads, and tried this version which was newer, but I got the same results.

Forgot to paste in the second version, the more recent one I got from looking up the service tag:
ISM-Dell-Web-3.6.0-2249.VIB-ESX6i-Live_A00

Hello @Tim_1965,
We are still missing some information: What Dell servers do you have?
Would it be possible for you to obtain the screenshot? That would help us to understand which environment is sending the error message and help you better.
Do you have the direct link to the driver/firmware you are trying to install? I mean something like this: https://www.dell.com/support/home/fr-fr/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=trrwt
Regards.

Thank you. I had not put the host in Maintenance Mode previously as I didn't see that in the recommended steps online anywhere.
How do I know if I am in "admin view"? Not sure what that means.
I attached the baseline to the host that is in Maintenance Mode. At this point I have been clicking "Check Compliance" to be sure the version I have is compliant. That's where I'm seeing the error. Any reason not to do that?

Joey,
As stated in my post, the software is Dell EMC iDRAC Service Module for 6.7U3. Update Manager is just the menu item in vCenter 6.7U3 for Update Manager. I don't have a screen shot but it simply says it is not compliant. That's the whole message.

Actually, it looks like the compliance check runs automatically if you don't run it manually. It ran and marked it as non-compliant again.

NOTE:
My only purpose of deploying this is to allow iDRAC to get the ESX host's name, so that our OpenManage tool shows the server name rather than an IP address. Based on the article below:
https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000142904/dell-poweredge-idrac-is-not-displaying-esxi-6-5-6-7-system-host-name-and-operating-system-correctly
The first procedure listed didn't work, as it says near the bottom of the article. It recommends either the Service Module OR a different tool, the Dell EMC OpenManage Server Administrator vSphere Installation Bundle (VIB). Any recommendations on which of the two would be better for my purpose?

Hello @Tim_1965,
Thanks for the article... Ok, so the article says either to install the Dell EMC iSM (iDRAC Service Module) which is this one: https://dell.to/39cQxQc (already tried, not working).
Or OpenManage Server Administrator vSphere Installation Bundle (VIB) for ESXi which is this one: https://dell.to/3feEFRJ Can you try to install this one? Install instructions below:
Download
1. Click the Download File link to download the zip file.
2. When the File Download window appears, click Save to save the file to your hard drive.
Installation:
1. Login to the system running VMware VSphere Client or vCenter-Server
2. Bring the intended ESXi host into Maintenance Mode
3. Unzip the offline bundle to extract the vib and https://dell.to/3w7HtGv. Use the vib to install Server Administrator software on the desired ESXi host
# esxcli software vib install --viburl= [OpenManage viburl]
OR
# esxcli software vib install -v [OpenManage viburl]
NOTE: After you install the VIB, a host reboot is not required.
NOTE: After an ESXi VIB installation, the CIM services are restarted automatically to load the Server Administrator providers (DCIM service). It is recommended to wait for 2 - 3 minutes before logging in from any Server Administrator web server. Else, the Server Administrator web server login to the ESXi host may fail.
BTW: Is this a new deployment? are you using the Dell custom ESXi iso (Dell OEM image)? This ISO: https://dell.to/3w1KYhi
Regards.

Here is a screen shot of the zip file (the one starting with OM) and the contents extracted. Do I need to use SCP or something to copy all of these to the host? If so, which of the two commands do I then enter, and which file do I reference?

Thanks @DiegoLopez . This is a new deployment and yes we used the Dell custom ESXi image, the very one you linked to. Weirdly, when I search for drivers for the specific service tag, it brings up an older release (A06), but we only installed the newer one. Thanks for checking!
Can you clarify this part of the instruction? I'm not sure what this means exactly as to (a) which command to run, and (b) how to get the file to the ESXi host so it will be on there to run. Also, is there more than one file in the zip? Do both need to be copied to the host? Thanks for all the help!
# esxcli software vib install --viburl= [OpenManage viburl]
OR
# esxcli software vib install -v [OpenManage viburl]
