Broken: grub2 over ipmitool, does not wait for enter key in grub menu (ignores timeout)
Hi,
I've an annoying issue that has caused hours of debug time already.
No ipmi: Start the virtual console, boot the server, it comes to grub menu, and waits for timeout (which is very large), and when enter is hit, it boots. All good!
Now, run "ipmitool -I lanplus ... sol activate" : grub menu shows up (in the xterm running ipmitool), but immediately continues without waiting for timeout or waiting for user to hit enter. Thus the user cannot change boot entry.
Server details:
Model PowerEdge R740xd
Service Tag -removed by moderator
BIOS Version 2.10.2
iDRAC Firmware Version 4.40.10.00
Grub version: 2.06
OS: fedora 36 (server edition).
Thanks,
MR

Hi, thanks for choosing Dell. I'm afraid I can't be of much help this time: PowerEdge does not support Fedora OS. Let's leave this open for discussion, shall we. Wish you a good one.

Huh! This has nothing to do with the OS, since the OS is not even loaded during grub menu. Most likely something in the iDRAC? no?
What OS is supported? RHEL 7? Ubuntu 20?

Hello ipmiuser,
Could you update the firmware and check the results after?
BIOS Version 2.10.2 (five revisions behind 2.15.1)
iDRAC Firmware Version 4.40.10.00 (eight revisions behind 5.10.30.00)
I see 5.00.20.00 Fixed an issue of customer observing random IPMI timeouts to idrac9.
There may be other fixes since the version you're on.
The supported OS's for R740xd are shown here : https://dell.to/3BWhfvT
