what hyper type does timefinder clone meta need?
Dear All,
Can I use STD hyper type of meta lun as target of timefiner clone?
Or I need to use BCV type only.
Please kindly help to clarify.
Thank you,

not completely true, target meta members can be larger in size than the source meta, see emc201553

The source and target devices can be either standard devices or BCV devices as long as they are all of the same size and emulation type (FBA or CKD). Clone copies of striped or concatenated meta devices can also be created, but the source and target meta devices must be completely identical in stripe count, stripe size, and capacity.

For the record: a hyper or slice is 1 slice of a single spindle. I think you mean symdev, which is a set of hypers, bound together usnig some sort of protection like RAID1 of RAID5 (unless it's an STD, which is unprotected and if it's not a META indeed resides only on 1 single disk; you can't mask a STD to a host, so if you need to work on that clone, it cannot be an STD).

Hi RRR,
Yes, I mean symdev
So unprotected LUN is made by a hyper?
I remembered that host cannot see unprotected LUN in the rule.
back to my question, I can clone data to STD, or BCV LUN which size can be larger than source.
Thank you for the clarification.

Hi Dayanand,
Could you explain more about emulation type (FBA or CKD)?
Thank you,
Dennis

Hello
FBA is for Open systems.
CKD is for Mainframe systems.
Was there anything specific you wanted to know
