VMWare SRM query
Hi All,
I see that the VMWare SRM does not support the EMC Symmetrix SRDF Adaptive copy mode. Is there any specific reason for this? Is the lack of consistency across the source and target LUNs is what that forbids SRM from supporting Adaptive Copy Mode? Is there any possibility of VMWare SRM supporting Adaptive Copy in future releases?
Thanks,
SreeHari

The reason I would see is, the SRM is for site recovery which requires consistent data / able to restart production at remote site.
But, the adaptive copy is not recommended / used for restartable copy scenario.

Peri is correct and for this reason we do not support Adaptive Copy and won't. You can put it in that mode to do an initial sync and then change. But of course the adapter will filter the devices out as candidates upon a device rescan until they are in sync or async mode.

Hi Sreehari.
What kind of SRDF are using? Sync? A? Star?
It is very important to know to answer your question.

Desired R1 devices must be masked to the protected sideVMWare environment.
Desired R2 or R21 (depending on the configuration) devices should be masked to the recovery side VMWare environment.
Uses one of the following replication modes:
SRDF/A
SRDF/S
Concurrent SRDF/STAR
Cascaded SRDF/STAR
Cascaded SRDF (non Star)
Concurrent SRDF (non Star)
Dynamic RDF Devices
Unfortunatelly so far Adaptive Copy is NOT supported with two-sit SRDF
