Unisphere for VMAX :: Credentials for Virtual Servers?
Hi 2 all!
Can you guys help me - what are the exact requirements and user rights needed on ESX server so Virtual Servers can function properly?
Our security policies are quite strict so I can get only read-only user for this purpose. Are read only user rights on ESX enough?
Also, is it possible to add LDAP (Active Directory) user on ESX with read-only rights?
Documentation is not so detail regarding that matter.

The Virtual Server configuration in Unisphere requires root access because of the capabilities in the feature. In the Unisphere for VMAX Product Guide:
"Type the User Name used to connect to the server. The user must have root privileges on the server."

once vApp is deployed and gatekeepers presented to VM you don't really need to access the VM. When you need to upgrade the vApp then you will need someone with permissions to mount the ISO file to that VM.

To dovetail on this, NO: read only rights to ESX do not work at all. When we provision new vApps, our admin has to login as root. We tried a privileged LDAP account which did not work, either. So far, we've only made this work as root, so plan accordingly.

Thank you guys for answers...
As I would just like to see current state and properties of each ESX and don't want to change anything, I tried using ESX local user given with read only permissions. I can see related objects of each ESX now. This is enough for me.
