timefinder est/restore question
Hello,
I have a question about timefinder establish and restores. Assume both the standard and the bcv are meta devices of the same size. We pair them , then we recreate the standard device as meta with bigger meta members so the new size of the standard would be slightly bigger than the original device and the number of meta members would be less. Is it possible to restore from the bcv to this new device ? Same question goes the other way, if the bcv meta has different size meta memebers and a slightly bigger total size, can it be paired with a device with smaller meta member size but more meta members.
Thanks
Moeen

Not sure if i have understood your question well or not (I apologize) but if you are asking "is it possible to restore from a larger BCV to a smaller standard device then the answer is NO."

** Symmetrix Timefinder Family CLI Product Guide ***
Copying from a source device to a larger target device
Clone source and target devices no longer have the requirement to be the same size. Now
the size of a clone target device can be larger than the source device. This support requires
the following SYMCLI environment variable be set:
SYMCLI_CLONE_LARGER_TGT = ENABLED
The following limitations apply:
◆ Restore is not allowed.
◆ Full copy support only; must use -nodifferential.
◆ VP Snap is not supported.
◆ Concatenated metadevices are not supported.
◆ When using this feature on striped metadevices you have to preserve the
metageometry. That is, the source and target devices should contain the same
number of metamembers. However, the target device members can be larger than the
source device members.
