TimeFinder Clones and vSphere RDMs
Can someone shed some light on the methodology/best practices for clones used as RDMs within vSphere? I know for actual datastores you would want the datastore unmounted on the host before doing a recreate/activate to refresh the clone. However I'm not sure exactly what is going to happen for an RDM LUN?
Obviously we would want to make sure it was unmounted from the guest that was using it before recreate/activate, but is there anything that needs to be done on the host itself. We want to make sure we don't inadvertently cause an APD scenario. Our game plan is:
1. Create clone
2. Activate clone
3. Attach to guest
4. Mount in guest, back up data
5. Unmount
6. Recreate/Activate
7. Mount, back up data
8. Unmount
Etc. Is the recreate in step 6, which causes the devices to go Not Ready, going to cause a problem from the host's perspective? Will we have to add in additional steps to detach the RDMs from the ESX cluster?
