Replace Brocade Switch attached to DMX4 and HP-UX 11.31

Hello,

We need to replace Brocade DS-4900B with DS-5300B. The current 4900 switches are attached to DMX4 and to HP-UX 11.31 hosts configured as “Service guard” clusters. One cluster Nodes are configured with “Agile addressing scheme” and the 2nd cluster is with “Legacy Addressing scheme”.

We plan to configure the new 5300 with the same “Domain ID” and reconnect the DMX FAs, and the HBA Hosts to 5300, to the same port number as they were connected in the 4900.  Will this work? Or additional configuration is needed? Is there a procedure how to do it?

Thanks in advance.

IS.

Please consider moving this question as-is (no need to recreate) to the proper forum for maximum visibility.  Questions written to the users' own "Discussions" space don't get the same amount of attention and can go unanswered for a long time.

You can do so by selecting "Move" under ACTIONS along the upper-right.  Then search for and select: "Symmetrix Support Forum".

I dont really have the final answer on this - but as you know in older hp-ux such as version 11.00 and 11.11 or even 11.21 - the device path e.g. 10.x.y.etc.etc, the x is the domain ID and y is the port number. By sticking to the same switch domain ID and port number, the same hp-ux device path is maintained, and thus the device files cXtXdX generated will be identical to those on the older switch.

With 11.31, the OS now has a much improved multipathing capabilities. In addition to the old 10.x.y.etc.etc which still exists and called legacy hardware path, every lun device now has a corresponding new hardware path which no longer based on switch domain ID and port number, but instead is associated with the storage frontend port e.g. 10.0x5000c500061084d5.0x0, so in fact I have much higher expectation of 11.31. I expect it to work even if the switch ID and port number is different. But HP-UX support personnel probably should have the final say on this.
