Question regarding symmetrix Bin files

Where does the symmetrix BIN Files resides?

Hello

When referring to a BIN file you are possibly referring to 2 different entities.

1) The Solutions Enabler symapi_db.bin file that resides in the symapi\db folder. This is present on any Solutions Enabler management host including the service processor of the symmetrix.

2) The Symmetrix BIN file is the in memory configuration of the Array and is normally saved by Symmwin as an IMPL file.

The two files are not the same thing as you cannot use the IMPL file with Solutions enabler and you cannot load the symapi_db.bin using Symmwin.

Typically the symapi BIN file is normally referred to as the symapi database where as the IMPL file/Symmwin config for the Symmetrix is referred to as the BIN file.

Thank you

If you are talking about symapi_db.bin file, it resides on the management host under \symapi\db\symapi_db.bin

You can find bin file in your service processor console,in the following path.

O:\EMC\folder with your box id(example:2005806)\public\user

in the user folder you can find impl.bin file

How can we copy the bin file from the SP to other location, in case requested by support team. Can we ssh ,ftp etc... Is there any interpreter for this particular file. Thanks in advance.

as a customer you can't, support team will use ESRS to connect to SP and get the file. SYR account also uploads bin file on weekly basis to EMC

Thanks a lot  for  a prompt reply. Appreciate that. Just wondering if this applies for Vmax systems as well.

Dipak, you dont need to login to VMAX through ESRS to get the symapi_db.bin. Its available on your management host. Yet you want to login and copy the file from VMAX to your system, in remote anywhere window, you get the option the upload/download file from SP to your local desktop.

symapi_db.bin file from the service process ? Interesting, then why is it that whenever we submit BTP files for performance review support asks for symapi_db.bin file if it's easily available to them (i know for sure it will not have my device groups)

Support can login to the SP and pull a copy of the symapi_db.bin down, but they can also download the T1*.bin file along with the T1*.ttp files from the stp directory as well.

CG and DG information would be the only reason that I can think of that they would need one from your management station.
