Prepopulating initiators on director port.
Working with IBM AIX virtual hba's and NPIV.
We are using 2 physical hba's per fabric (one for each VIO) so total of 4 physical hba's.
To each physical hba's we are using 2 npiv initiators, one active and one standby.
The only way to "light up" the standby npiv is to run a validation process which will check for the visibility of the LUN on that NPIV.
This process only lasts a few seconds,
We've pre-populated the switches with the alias and zoned the alias with the director port and added this to the live config on the switches.
This should allow the symmetrix to discover the hba, but for some reason it will not shop up on the director port list.
Relatively new to the symmetrix CLI and still trying to navigate through the maze of options and switches in the solutions enabler commands ... Is there anyone who knows of a way to "create" an initiator on a director port and (should show up as not logged in) ... that way I can then mask it to the MetaDevices and then try the validation on the OS to see if the failover can happen successfully.
Cheers.

you can pre-mask your devices ahead of time, you don't have to have an initiator logged-in to do that.
