Obtaining Drive Serial numbers from VMAX
I have a quick question
We are getting rid of our two VMAX 20K arrays, and I need a way to gather the drive serial numbers from the.
Sure I can go in the computer room, open the door and write them down on a piece of paper, but there is 300+ drives and the labels are small and I am lazy and feel my time is spent doing something more productive that is not this....
the numbers seem to start with a 0050xxxx number that I need.
example, on the drive there is a barcode , it says EMC PIN then 005048432
I have not seen this in Unisphere, nor can I figure out a Symcli command to get the info.
anyone have any ideas or am I in for a few hours of eyestrain?
thanks in advance

Hi James,
I think those 0050xxxx numbers you're looking at are EMC part numbers; not a serial numbers. Drive serial numbers are usually alphanumeric. I don't think you can see the part numbers via the CLI/GUI, but you can find the drive serial numbers with the 'symdisk list -v' command -- look for the "Serial ID" field in the output.
Thanks,

If you have either the order or the shipping paperwork the drive part number/serial numbers are contained there.
