Migrate device to smaller device on same VMAX
Is there a way to migrate a device (LUN) to a smaller device (LUN) on the same VMAX? I looked at Open replicator which allows migration to smaller device with the -force_copy option but it will only work between storage systems (we only have the one VMAX locally) and PPME will not allow migrating to a smaller device at all.
Basically I created a 2TB TDEV device and used PPME to migrate a 1.5TB drive to it, then extended the partition to 1750GB (the application group only needed 250GB more for now, and I left the remaining space available for later expansion). This device is also migrated via Recoverpoint, but unfortunately the remote splitters do not work with any device over 2TB (hardware limit) - which I didnt find out until AFTER the migration was committed. Apparently the device I created was a few blocks too large! So now I need to move the data to a smaller device (LUN) with minimal downtime so I can get it replicated via Recoverpoint.
Any suggestions??

i think Open Migrator/LM can do that

Yes it can. Thanks! I tested it on a test filesystem. Since Open Migrator/LM migrates the volume (partition) it doesnt care about the size of the underlying device/LUN as long as it can support the partition. Since I only need to migrate to a slightly smaller device (in blocks), and the partition unly uses 88% of the current device, it works in this case.

We already had a license that our previous storage engineer purchased.
