Losing connection to EMC SAN every 6 hours
Hi guys,
I have 2 Windows Server 2008 boxes which are configured with Failover Clustering and SQL Server Clustering, using EMC SAN as the database disks. My problem is that every 6 hours (from server startup time), the SAN disks disappear long enough to affect failover cluster which then triggers a failure of the applications/resources. Things come back online after the disks reappear.
This is the error I am seeing in the Event Viewer: "The device 'EMC SYMMETRIX SCSI Disk Device '(SCSI\Disk&Ven_EMC&Prod_SYMMETRIX\5&2f21c352&0&00000d) disappeared from the system without first being prepared for removal." Thie event ID is 12 with a source of PlugPlayManager.
I have found that I can manual trigger this error by running a "scan for hardware change". Any idea why it would do this? Thanks!

If you do a search through the Knowledge base you may find helpfull information.
Article, emc252297: Windows host running either 2003 or 2008 with varying PowerPath versions will lose all paths when a disk rescan is performed in Windows Disk Management.
Enable the SPC2 and OS2007 flags either on the FA ports or at the HBA level using masking operations.

1. Make sure 4 important flags C, SPC2, SC3 and OS2007 are enabled either on FA or on HBA level.
2. Make sure for Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Storport Driver Hotfix KB957910 is installed and for Windows Server 2008 Microsoft Storport Driver Hotfix KB968675 is installed. R2 does not require any hotfix to be installed.
3. Also make sure the HBA driver and firmware are EMC supported.
