Is there a way to manage difference devs on a host with different fast-vp policies?

We just started working on implemeting a VMAX.  I'm still learning some of this, so please correct me if I have some thing confused.

We are planning to use fast-vp.  It looks to me that when using autoprovisioning, a masking group only contains one storage group.  A fast policy is applied to a storage group correct?   So is there a way to manage different devices for a host with different policies?  For example, I have a server running a SQL database app, but it also has a drive that is use to hold backup data.   I want to have fast manage the database drive for the best possible performance, but I want make sure the backup drive just stays on SATA.  If those devices are in the same storage group within a masking view, then they can only be managed with one fast policy correct?

Thoughts on how to accomplish this?

Thanks,

  Karsten

Here's a blurp from a document I was just reading.

As discussed previously, device pinning enables the Storage Administrator to hold a bound thin device under FAST VP control in place, preventing FAST VP from moving extents associated with the pinned device. However, a user pinned device can be moved via Optimizer or migrated using Virtual LUN VP Mobility.

CLI has been enhanced to allow pin and unpin commands for individual devices, device groups, composite groups and storage groups.

Actually, if you have devices in your storage group that you do not want FAST-VP to move, then you can use a command called PIN DEVICE.

This Pins that device to the specific Tier / pool that it resides in at the point you pin it and it will stay there and FAST will not move it.
