How to automate performance reporting in Symm?
Hi All,
Is there a way to automate performance reporting on Symmetrix array?
We have SMC\SPA\ECC\SPM. (No Prosphere).
I'd like to get a report of the following parameters on a monthly basis (if possible automatically email'ed to my inbox). Is there a way to get that done?
System IOPs
System WP
Local & Remote WP
FA IOPs
FA Util%
DA Util%
RDF IOPs
RDF Util%
Please advise...
Thanks,

Is this a cost intensive engagement? (I think yes)..

Hi SreeHari,
It is easy to generate an automatic and scheduled report from SPA using the Query facility.
To learn how to use the Quesry in SPA, download the SPA Help from PowerLink and search for and run the Query Demo.
It will show you how to setup a scheduled Query for metrics you listed.
It can produce a spreadsheet with the Metrics over a period of time usually in 5 min intervals depending on SPA collections.
It does not have a mailing capability allthough you can probably write a script to do that.
Same capability also exists in Unisphere for VMAX.

Vishald - I think that's an EMC-internal distribution list. I'm not sure if EMC customers can easily reach it. However, if it is accessible to customers, you will probably find customers coming out of the woodwork to get these kinds of reports done!

I'm not sure how useful a monthly average will be. I frequently see workloads on arrays change dramatically over a 24 hour window, sometimes peaking at 4 or 5 times the average IO rate.
I can see where this might help with overall trending of your workloads, but not much else.

hi guys, would anyone be able to upload some symm perf stats in csv format somewhere so that I can download and take a look and possibly try to produce a report of some sort.. Absolutely no cost whatsoever :-) as I just want to experiment with report generation. Something like 10MB zip will do. Thanks in advance.
