Hot Spare is not invoked

Hey everyone,

today when i checked my vmax for any dailed disks using

symdisk list -failed it showed

Ident  Symb Int TID Vendor     Type       Hypr   Total       Free      Actual

------ ---- --- --- ---------- ---------- ---- ---------- ---------- ----------

DF-9A  09A    C   4 SEAGATE    EGC4515      35     418710      36308     418710

but command

symdisk list -failed shows hotspares, but all the hotspare are with 0 hypers on them.

                Capacity(MB)

Hypr   Total       Free      Actual

---- ---------- ---------- ----------

    0          0          0     418710

    0          0          0     190782

    0          0          0     279140

    0          0          0     418710

    0          0          0     418710

    0          0          0     418710

    0          0          0     190782

    0          0          0     418710

    0          0          0     190782

    0          0          0     418710

So this means that no hotspare is invoked for this disk.?

and finally the command

symdisk show 9A:C4

shows all hypers on this disk with Not Ready.

waiting for your kind response.

If the replaced drive was a Not Ready Spare drive, it will not be listed in the symdisk -failed  command.

You can use "symdisk list -v -spare_info". if you could see any hypers attatch to any spare_disk .

symdisk -failed is showing originol data disk that is failed. but -spare_info is not showing any hyper attached to any spare disk. Hyper field in all the Spare disks is showing 0.

i think thats okay when you get DMS kicked in, it does not show if any devices have hotspare attached it.. you might want to check with PSE labs.

and another disk has failed now with same result in symdisk list -hotspare ( no hypers against any hotspare). and how would i make sure if Permanent hotspare has actually kicked in.? and my data is safe.?

i have another issue to discuss.. i have frequent disk failures in vmax box, like one diks in a month. could there be any specific reason for this failure like power or environment? cuz we have another box at some other location with almost no disks failed in years.
