Hello All,
I am encountering the following error message while I am trying to enable FAST VP on VMAX10K, Is anyone aware of this problem?
This is a new box.

FAST VP enhancements
Fully Automated Storage Tiering for Virtual Provisioning (FAST VP) enhancements are available for the Symmetrix VMAX Family storage systems running Enginuity level of 5876 and higher and Solutions Enabler 7.4.

I would suggest opening an service request with customer service to investigate this issue. Someone may need to dial into the array to check the state of the FAST VP controller on the service processor.

The issue is fixed. I think CS dialed in and fixed this issue. Thanks

Hi gpkm, Thanks fo rcontacting EMC community.
Can you please paste here the output of this command: symfast -sid xxx list -state -vp
If it was listed as enabled then i will assume there is an issue with either UNIVMAX or SMC. I would like also to ask about the version you are using of any of them?
Hope that helps

The FAST VP State is changed automatically to Disabled. It is giving me the same error when I try to re-enable it.
I have opened up a case and EMC remoted in. But I see the data is moving. As per the Support, they say it is enabled on the CLI or Controller and data is moving.
*** I had enabled the ALLOCATE BY FAST POLICY*** Is because of this the FAST state is disabled ?

OK so it is disabled, Can you please open another case with Support while it is in this state?
FAST VP movements will not occur while it is disabled.
Product Support Engineer (PSE) will check Optimizer log and see why it got disbaled. It might be related to an issue with SP, I have seen similar behaviour when one of memory boards on SP was faulted so there are many reasons for this to happen. EMC Support should be able to identify this.
Allocate by FAST policy should not disbale FAST VP. it is just a FAST VP control parameter you set.
Hope that helps

Support Fixed it
FYI
Engineering is still looking into the root cause but it appears to be a communication issue between the API and service processor. I will keep you updated once they get back to me.

gpkm,
As long as Allocate by Policy is enabled, and all TDEVs are associated with a FASTVP Policy that has access to the SATA tier, the Symm will use capacity from other pools/tiers in the event that the 'bound' pool fills to 100%. This works even when FASTVP itself is in a disabled state.
For what it's worth, I have a couple Python scripts that will help you validate that all devs are associated to a policy --
seancummins/fast_report · GitHub - Reports per-device Symmetrix FASTVP policies & associations, capacity, and binding information
seancummins/fastless_tdevs · GitHub - Reports Symmetrix TDEVs that are in Storage Groups, but not managed by FASTVP
Thanks,
- Sean

I know this is not the right thread, but I just wanted to ask..
I have the Unisphere on VMAX Service process and recently i installed UniVMAX+SPA on Windows host.
I am seeing inconsistent data showing up on these to unispheres.
the storage allocation filled percentage is showing differently on uni at vmax and unisphere on windows host for thin-pools and Devices? I am not able to decide which one is showing the correct data ? can anyone help ?
Thank you

Allocate by FAST policy is Enabled
Salem,
I have a FC pool 11 TB, we created 50 TB devices and binded to this pool, these devices in a storage group associated with FAST VP policy - EFD 50 %, FC100% and SATA 100%.
EFD pool -1 TB
FC pool 11 TB
SATA Pool 70 TB
My FC pool is now 80 % full, i see some data also written to SATA pool, but i am worried if the FC pool gets 100% full and the new writes will go to SATA pool for SURE ? Will they ?
I just dont wanna see FC gets full and I will have a bad day ...
