emcgrab for esxi 5.1 - could not open connection error

Hi Gents,

Sorry for posting this onto the symmetrix support forum but I thought if I could get a quick response.

Am getting the below error when running the emcgrab on the esxi host:

==========================================================

Error opening connection

It shows up Could not open a connection to the ESXi host

the script shown below:

emcgrab.exe -host 192.168.2.86 -user abc\ronald -password 1234 -vmsupport

==========================================================

Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

The original thread / question is posted on this forum:

How to run the powerlink grab utility on a esxi 4.0 hosts

Regards

Taz~

Earlier version ESX and ESXi  (mainly 3 and some earlier versions of 4) used many RHL Linux utilities. And as a result EMC was able to run some Linux utilities in the console.  But more and more, VMware Engineering has been moving away from RHL.  Newer versions, VMware ESXi, 5.0.0, 768111 and above will require native ESX tools to provide the same functionality.  I am not sure this is the problem with the version of emcgrab you are using (you might want to goto the ftp site and see for the latest) but I am having the same issues trying to obtain an INQ.

Hi Taz,

Are you using AD for user authentication on this ESX server?

Can you try "-user ronald" without specyfing the domain?

Cheers,

Pawel
