Not that I know. HDS does have a manual feature, EMC doesn’t have it integrated in their management software.

Not automatically. You still need to trigger it and as Quincy56 said: if a drive is physically broken, a wipe is impossible.

you probably did not mean physical destruction of the drives
, you can pay more for maintenance and EMC will drives onsite so you can shred them using your preferred data management company.

The code can do a secure erase in the box if the drive is still operating. If the drive is really dead, then there is no way to perform a secure erase.

Yes, I am talking about shredding (Data)of physical drives.
I came to know that EMC have this facility in newer code release.

so, the secure erase is possible on the swapped out drive automatically? is there any manual for this?
Just want to clarify, I am not talking about decomissioning any array and shreddign the whole array, just talking about the spared out drive.
