Does anyone installed SMC on VM?
Can someone tell, any special considerations for Installing SMC in VM (Virtual Machine), I got help from the one peer on this forums explaining about the SMC on physical install..any difference with doing it on Virtual Machine ..?

yes, there is a big difference. When you present devices to VMs that will be used as either SMC/ECC or SPA ..devices need to be presented as RDM devices in physical compatibility mode

from my knowledge SMC can be installed on VMGUEST which is a part of the VMFARM.....
we installed our EMC SMC on a VMGUEST(win 2008)... nothing will be different as far as i know...

SAN_AK,
as dynamox said for the VMGUEST the lun should be RDM data store on which you are goin to install the SMC.....

Dynamox, a quick clarification that.....the VM guest can be something a regular one, but the gatekeeper devices presented to the ESX host should be RDMed to the VM guest where the SMC going to be installed ?...
(or) A VM should be build only with RDM hard disk ?

VM itself can be regular thin provisioned VMDK but when you present gatekeepers to the VM ..they have to be presented as RAW RDM physical mode. Also if you are going to have multiple VMs dedicated to Symmetrix management make sure each VM has dedicated gatekeepers, i typically present 6 gatekeepers.
