XPS 8940, SA, PCIe Status Test - WPE01-EFR

Each time I run SA (SupportAssist) it shows as a warning. My computer is working fine just wish there were a way to get rid of this warning. Anyone else with the XPS 8940 having this problem?

Support assist often gives spurious AI info.  Your pc is working fine.  One option to get rid of the warning is to simply uninstall support assist, which I consider as Dell bloatware. You do not really need it to diagnose any real issue, and it may cause more unnecessary trouble than any tangible benefit.

Bloatware is a type of software that comes preinstalled on a computer.  Annoying at best, harmful at worst, bloatware is rarely useful and serves primarily as a revenue stream for manufacturers and distributors

Yes, Same results with my XPS8940, it sometimes fails the hardware test for Network Card with the following message "PCI Express Status Test - WPE01-EFR", (sometimes it does actually pass), yet I have no issues with my network card or computer.

I also believe this is a Support Assist issue and not a hardware issue.

Thanks

Hi cat0w:

Rst29 posted about a similar WPE01-ELP error code in their 23-Jan-2022 thread Hardware Scan Result (Manual) - Default Scan Failed.

XPS_Man's post that was marked as the solution for the 01-Sep-2021 thread 5490 AIO Support Assist Error WPE01-EC4 PCIE states the following...

"... I had a ticket with Technical support team for the same issue. The case was sent to their development team. Last week, I was informed that error code WPE01-XXXX is for analytical purpose only. A future SupportAssist build will take care of it. I was not given any ETA for the release though.

As of now ignoring the message is the only option."

... so the display of your WPE01-EFR error code is likely just due to a bug in SupportAssist.

Hi cat0w:

According to Dell employee NikhilKiroula's 03-Mar-2022 post in Mclai's XPS 8940 - PCIE Express - WPE01-EXC:

  • We have received many issues reported from the field where customers observe PCI Express bus error (WPE01) when they run SupportAssist Hardware scan OTB or web.
  • After extensive discussion around this issue with our vendor, and as per them, this issue is related to software where Realtek driver has marked some parameter wrong under registry not as per industry standard which is leading this issue.
