We can't continue with this action until your PC restarts.

For the past couple weeks, I keep getting this same error message when attempting to update using SupportAssist on my Dell G7, using Windows 11. I tried UNinstalling and reinstalling the program, but same problem. Is there a problem with the software itself, or something on my machine?

Hi everyone,

A new version of Support Assist is available today. Please install the latest version and test it.
Explore SupportAssist for Home PCs | Dell US

If you continue to experience this issue after updating, let us know in this thread.

Same issue here. Hope version 4 of the SupportAssist program gets fixed instead of Dell throwing up their hands and saying "we don't care"

Hi everyone,

Just a quick update: Dell’s engineering team is working on a new SA version. We’ll provide more information as soon as it’s available.

@DELL-Nat M That sorta worked. The new version worked until I rebooted. Now it fails the "check for updates" step almost immediately. It says that another scan is in progress and that I should try again after some time.

Still saying that an hour after booting...

@adfkjhasdfkla   I am wondering if you uninstall SupportAssist, reboot, and then freshly install it; perhaps that might help.

I get this, too: Win 10 with all updates, but I see support assist needs an update, which is something support assist should be far more aggressive about when checking for updates!

@DELL-Nat M Didn't help here 12/18/24 with XPS 8940 and Win 11. SupportAssist works except Check for Updates.

@qns3pips Sorry folks,  I don't know if Win 11 update is responsible.  Please disregard.

This is getting increasingly frustrating.  The first post here is November of 2024.  I'm posting this in June of 2025 and the issue persists in some computers.  I doubt this is a Windows update issue.  I've tried uninstalling SA and all its related apps and re-installing it from scratch.  At the end, when SA launches, it then aborts with no error message or warning.  Once that happens, it's the same issue... won't check for updates until the machine is restarted.

Bring back the Command Update.  It was simple and effective.

Hi ArekS:

What version of SupportAssist is shown at Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features, and has your Dell service warranty expired yet?

What is your Dell computer model, Windows OS [open a Run dialog box (Windows key + R) and enter winver to find the version and OS build number] and BIOS version?  To find your current BIOS version open a Run dialog box, enter msinfo32 to open your System Information, and look for the field named "BIOS Version / Date" in the summary.

Bring back the Command Update.  It was simple and effective.

Browse to https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/products and enter your unique Service Tag to open the correct support page for your computer model.  Click the Drivers & Downloads page and choose the "This Device" tab to see if the latest Dell Command | Update v5.5.0 app (rel. 01-Apr-2025) *** is compatible with your system.

*** NOTE: Before installing or updating to v5.5.0 please read my 05-Apr-2025 topic Dell Update v5.5.0 (rel. 01-Apr-2025) Installs Unnecessary Bloat.  The latest v5.5.0 has undergone a major redesign that now requires Microsoft .NET v8.0.x as a prerequisite (see the "Important Information" section in the Dell Command | Update v5.5.0 release notes <here>) and is much more resource-intensive than previous versions
