Use SupportAssist with admin right

Latitude 3520

Latitude 3520

Hello,

We want to launch Dell supportassist on PC without administrator rights. How can we run this application with admin rights (preferably via an .exe) to avoid update issues?

We have seen the solution with the "Dellsupportassist" service, where the service runs with an administrator account, but we would like to avoid this solution.

Thks.

To launch Dell SupportAssist on a PC without administrator rights, you can enable the "Allow non-admin users to run Hardware scans" feature in SupportAssist for Business PCs version 4.5.2 or higher, allowing users to perform hardware scans without needing administrator privileges.

Check SupportAssist Version:
Ensure your PC is running SupportAssist for Business PCs version 4.5.2 or higher.
Enable Hardware Scans for Non-Admin Users:
Within the SupportAssist configuration, enable the option that allows non-administrator users to perform hardware scans.
Run Hardware Scans:
Once enabled, users without administrator rights can initiate hardware scans through the SupportAssist application.
Other Features:
For PCs running SupportAssist 4.5.2 or higher, you can also configure the type of PC updates end users can install based on Importance, Update type, and Device category.
SupportAssist OS Recovery:
To enable SupportAssist OS Recovery, turn on or restart the computer, press the F2 key at the Dell logo to access the BIOS Setup, go to SupportAssist System Resolution or SupportAssist, and then go to SupportAssist OS Recovery

To receive assistance from Dell chat support, they need to verify the warranty status and ownership. Then you must troubleshoot with them.  Click the "Get Help Now" icon on the right to start a live chat session. If already out of warranty, click here for the Dell out of warranty offering.

Hello,
Thank you for your reply. However, I can't find the settings you mentioned.

Here is the issue: when I try to search for or install drivers, the software says that an administrator account is required. But I cannot log in with such an account.

The suggested solutions — like running the Dell SupportAssist service as administrator, or logging into a Windows session with admin rights — are not options for us.

So my question is: how can SupportAssist be used from a standard user session, and use the Windows UAC to elevate our privilege (launch an .exe, launch cmd with admin rights)  ?

Please find attached a screenshot of the message that appears.
