Unable to update DellSupportAssist to latest rev

Hi,

my current version of DSA is 3.12.2.40

When I start it, I get a message asking to upgrade to new version. But when I accept, update process begins, shows an intermediate widow, then eventually fails, and DSA is NOT updated.

At fail time, a log file is generated in temp directory by DotNet runtime. According to this file, it looks like someone (DSA ?) attempt to try to install 6.0.9 version of DotNet, while 6.0.10 is already installed on my laptop (and the log files contains the message "Error 0x80070666: Cannot install a product when a newer version is installed."

On the other hand, installer.log file in C:\ProgramData\dell\SupportAssist\Agent\logs\installer indicates as error : "ERROR Dell.SupportAssist.Client.SupportAssistInstaller.MainWindow - Unexpeceted Error Occured during Asp Or Dot Net Core Installation"

It looks then clear that for any reason, DSA tries to install an older version of DotNet runtime than the one already installed.

I add that error is repetitive, and can be reproduced several times (always the same errors).

Please, Dell, to provide a new version of updater that works fine...

I have the same problem, exacerbated by following the standard advice to uninstall the existing version and then install the newer one. The uninstall worked exactly as expected, and of course the install failed exactly as described by @LaurentGrenet. The difference is that he still has the older version of SupportAssist installed - I have no version installed!

I can understand the installer checking for .Net version 6 having been installed, and installing it if hasn't been, but not checking that the version you are going to install has not been superseded by a later and presumably better version is not best practice, to say the least. The fact that the error message reported by @LaurentGrenet contains a spelling error (Unexpeceted) tells me, as an IT systems guy of over 40 years experience, that a certain lack of attention to detail in updating Dell softweare is involved here.

This is probably due to the fact that DSA, when checking .NET runtime installed, compare versions in alphabetic mode, rather han in numeric one, leading it to consider that 6.0.9 is above 6.0.10 (while it's obviously the contrary)...

The ONLY solution is that DELL provides ASAP a new version of DSA updater / installer without this bug (and done carefully enough to do not anymore have error messages mispelled, as revealed by @Antient just above)....

Step 1 - Sure, why not!

Step 2 - That was quick

Step 3 - Again?

This has been happening for a while,. It's part of my daily routine now.

Been back and forth with support. Even when they tried to uninstall, they can't find where current SupportAssist is installed.

I made my peace.
