SupportAssist won't install, windows 11, Dell Precision 5570
Hi I'm having an issue installing SupportAssist. When I try to install it it simply says "Installation Failed We were unable to complete the installation. Please reboot your PC and try again."
I have tried rebooting to no avail.
When I check the Windows Event Viewer under Event Viewer (Local) -> Windows Logs -> Application
I see an !Error at the time I'm installing that has the following
Description: A .NET application failed. Application: Dell.TechHub.exe Path: C:\Program Files\Dell\TechHub\Dell.TechHub.exe Message: You must install or update .NET to run this application. App: C:\Program Files\Dell\TechHub\Dell.TechHub.exe Architecture: x64 Framework: 'Microsoft.NETCore.App', version '5.0.0' (x64) .NET location: C:\Program Files\dotnet\ The following frameworks were found: 6.0.6 at [C:\Program Files\dotnet\shared\Microsoft.NETCore.App] 6.0.7 at [C:\Program Files\dotnet\shared\Microsoft.NETCore.App] Learn about framework resolution: https://aka.ms/dotnet/app-launch-failed To install missing framework, download: https://aka.ms/dotnet-core-applaunch?framework=Microsoft.NETCore.App&framework_version=5.0.0&arch=x64&rid=win10-x64
It seems as though it wants me to install .NET 5.0 and I have .NET 6.0 installed. But the issue is that microsoft warns me that .NET 5.0 is no longer supported. I do not want to install unsupported software on the computer that introduces a security vulnerability. Is there any way to update SupportAssist so it works with the supported .NET 6.0 rather than the old version? Or is there a work around to trick it to use 6.0?
Please help so I can install this software, thanks!

Hi ACryinShame:
I posted a few comments about your error log today in chriscfox's SupportAssist Won't Install.
As far as I know there's no way to avoid installing the unsupported .NET (Core) Runtime v5.0.17 if you want to run the latest SupportAssist v3.11.4.29. Ling Kwa's tested SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 with various versions of the .NET Core Runtimes and the results they posted in Dell Support Assist and Dell Update Failed - Inspiron 3881 Desktop with Win 11-21H2 seems to confirm that. I have no idea why Dell would release a SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 installer on 23-Jun-2022 that will only work if users have installed the .NET (Core) Runtime v5.0.17 that reached end of support on 10-May-2022 and will no longer receive security updates.
I'm hoping that the next version of SupportAssist will be re-designed to be compatible with the currently recommended .NET (Core) Runtime v6.x but I haven't seen any post by a Dell employee in this board indicating that this change is in the works. If the service warranty for your Precision 5570 hasn't expired yet you might want to contact Dell Support via a Live Chat and see what they have to say.

Hi Mkenda:
You've posted in an old thread discussing installation problems for SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 (rel. 23-Jun-2022).
If you are having issues installing the current SupportAssist v3.12.3.5 (rel. 11-Oct-2022) try the instructions posted 19-Oct-2022 by Dell employee DELL-Nathalia M in Michael.Strachan's Dell Support Assist Fails to Install. Step # 1 of those instructions advise that users begin by removing all traces of previous SupportAssist installations using the Microsoft Install and Uninstall troubleshooter. That troubleshooter should guide you through the process of removing SupportAssist from your computer but if you need help with this troubleshooter then read Method V of the Dell support article Windows 11, and Windows 10: Various Methods to Uninstall Problematic Programs and Apps. Note that Step # 2 of DELL-Nathalia M's instructions also advise that you have the older .NET Runtime v6.0.9, and not the current v6.10.0, installed on your system before you reinstall SupportAssist with the .msi installer.
If DELL-Nathalia M's instructions don't work then start a new topic. Please include your Dell computer model, your Windows operating system [if Win 10 or Win 11 include the edition (e.g., Home, Pro, etc.), version and OS build number shown at Settings | System | About | Windows Specifications], and your current BIOS version [open a Run dialog box (Windows key + R), enter msinfo32 to open the System Information panel, and look for the field titled "BIOS Date/Version"].
