SamBeavis,

Following up to see if the Dell Agent performed remote access to your system and work on the issue?

Dell Agent used remote access to remove all instances of SupportAssist and then was able to reinstall it.

Hi SamBeavis:

If you're still looking for assistance you might find some helpful information in chriscfox's 06-Dec-2021 SupportAssist Won't Install. User chriscfox didn't mention his Dell computer model so I'm not sure if the SupportAssist installation problems many users have recently reported are more prevalent with G5 and Alienware laptop models.

Your duplicate thread <here> from 05-Dec-2021 indicates you tried some of the workarounds in Dell-SridharV's KB article Solutions for Common SA (SupportAssist) Installation Issues, but it's not clear if you used DELL-Chris M's clean reinstall instructions in SA Uninstall/Reinstall first or simply uninstalled SupportAssist from Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features. Note that DELL-Chris M's instructions recommend installation of the latest BIOS firmware and Intel Chipset Device Software driver for your computer model (see the support page <here> for your Alienware Area 51M R2) and that you uninstall all SupportAssist-related programs (including the Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Plugin for Dell Update, Dell SupportAssist Remediation, etc, if installed) before reinstalling SupportAssist. As I noted in chriscfox's thread, I usually uninstall my Dell utilities with Revo Uninstaller Free in Aggressive mode to try any clean up any stray files and registry entries left behind by the utility's built-in uninstaller.

The fact that you are having problems inserting a download link in your replies in this Dell forum is somewhat concerning. The ~ 630 KB SupportAssistInstaller.exe file downloaded correctly today from the SupportAssist for Home PCs download page when I used my default Firefox v95.0.1 browser, so if you have issues downloading a fresh copy of this SupportAssistInstaller.exe when you reach the end of Dell-Chris M's clean reinstall instructions try a different browser for your download.

If none of this helps let us know the version and build of your Win 10 OS (enter winver in a Run Dialog box or go to Settings | System | About | Windows Specifications, default browser and antivirus program, and whether SupportAssist was installed on your Alienware Area 51M R2 when it shipped from the factory. It might also help if you could tell us what problems, if any, you were having with SupportAssist that required a reinstall in the first place.

You might also find some additional information about your "This installation requires an internet connection..." error (e.g., about a failure to validate a URL certificate) in the SupportAssistAgent.log file in the C:\ProgramData\SupportAssist\Client\Agent\logs\ApplicationLogs folder.  This is a hidden folder so you will have to show hidden files and folders in File Explorer (View | Hidden Items).

Hi SamBeavis:

If you right-click on the installer (SupportAssistInstaller.exe) and choose "Run as Administrator" does SupportAssist install correctly? If not, are you still seeing the same "This installation requires an internet connection. Check your connection and try again. If your connection requires a proxy, use the following link to review or update your settings" error message when you try to run the installer?

Sidscrat posted on 04-Jan-2022 in SupportAssist Will Not Install that they manually deleted the orphaned folders, registry entries and services left behind by the Control Panel uninstall of SupportAssist as instructed in the Dell Tech Support video Dell SupportAssist Not Installing. Once that preliminary cleanup of the remnants of SupportAssist was complete they were able to install SupportAssist by right-clicking the SupportAssistInstaller.exe installer saved from the SupportAssist for Home PCs download page and choosing "Run as Administrator"..

Hi @DELL-Jesse L :

This might be unrelated to SamBeavis' problem since this thread originated on 12-Jan-2022, but I just noticed that the digital certificate of the SupportAssistInstaller.exe file currently available on the SupportAssist for Home PCs download page expired on 23-Jan-2022.

Dell SupportAssistInstaller_exe Digital Signature Expired Downloaded 08 Feb 2022.png

I posted further details about this expired digital certificate today (08-Feb-2022) in Badea Cristian's Unable to Install Dell Support Assist. Badea Cristian sees an error message that states "We were unable to validate a file for installation. This may be due to a lost internet connection" when they try to install SupportAssist, which is slightly different than the "This installation requires an internet connection. Check your connection and try again..." error message that SamBeavis described in their original post <above>.

Hi Macsterhubner:

This thread was created in December 2021 and the original poster's problem was solved with a clean reinstall of SupportAssist.

The information in this thread is out of date but if you'd like to try a clean reinstall of the current SupportAssist v3.14.x then updated instructions have been posted at SupportAssist for PCs and Tablets Clean Uninstall and Reinstall.  This support article includes a link (https://www.dell.com/en-us/lp/dt/support-assist-for-pcs) to the latest SupportAssistInstaller.exe installer.

If those clean reinstall instructions don't help see Dell Tech Support video Dell SupportAssist Clean Reinstall - be sure to click the "Show More" link in the video description for links to the support article, Microsoft Troubleshooter tool, and SupportAssist installer mentioned in that video.

I removed all SupportAssist-related programs from my Inspiron 5584 a few months ago [I now use Dell Update for Windows Universal v5.x to check for available updates and run Dell's F12 ePSA (enhanced Pre-boot System Assessment) hardware diagnostics from my BIOS] so I won't be of much help to you if you require further assistance. If a clean reinstall of SupportAssist doesn't fix your problem then I"d suggest you create  a new thread here in the Dell SupportAssist for Home PCs board so your problem receives wider attention. Be sure to include your Dell computer model, your Windows operating system, and the exact error you see when you try to run the SupportAssist installer after your old SupportAssist installation is completely wiped from your system.
