SupportAssist OS Recovery not installing Windows properly

I’ve been having issues with my computer that have led me to restore it. I decided to use Dell’s SupportAssist OS Recovery environment — that way I’ll keep Dell apps and drivers. I’ve tried restoring my device multiple times — the first Cloud Restore resulted in an error about an ‘invalid answer file’....the file was named unattend.xml. I also received this error the second time I tried a Cloud Restore. I did try a Local Restore, but I didn’t even end up out of the SupportAssist OS Recovery environment. There was an error, though I don’t remember what it said. Does anyone know how I can get Windows back up and running? I can’t use Backup or Repair services in the OS Recovery environment because my OS is encrypted.

Hey @DELL-Stefan R,

I'm really sorry I didn't get back to you, I never checked back here until today and I guess Dell doesn't send email notifications for forum replies. I'll be sure to monitor my next question for replies. Edit: I just found the "Email me when someone replies" option when making a new post! I should check that, haha.

For anyone reading this, this isn't very helpful but I ended up giving up and reinstalling Windows with Microsoft's installer and then a while ago when I went to reinstall with SupportAssist it worked fine. I think an update to the SupportAssist Recovery Assistant fixed the issue.

Hi ThisIsMyAlias,

to ensure you get the correct answer to your request, could you please tell me which Dell device you're using? Knowing this we are able to get the correct person answering your question :)

Thanks
Stefan
