SupportAssist after Factory Restore
Dell XPS 8930, SupportAssist and Windows 10 restored to Factory Setting.
I have spend an enormous amount of time trying to get Dell SupportAssist to work.
I use the shortcut MyDell and select the Support tile and SupportAssist 3.2.0 loads.
Then "A new version of SupportAssist is available and will be installed on this PC"
Nothing happens for hours, rebooting the pc does not help either.
A few days ago I followed DELL-Chris M's instructions https://www.dell.com/community/SupportAssist-for-PCs/SA-uninstall-reinstall/m-p/6056368#M84385 with no success.
I also did follow the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1oUJY0vB4A, issued I think by Dell, which rendered my computer useless as I was not able to boot in to Windows 11.
I had no other options but to boot with F12 and restore my computer to factory settings.
One would think that SupportAssist would then work perfectly, but not so.
After restoring to factory settings it initially opened with Version 3.2.0 but failed to run Hardware Test as well as checking for updates.
After rebooting my pc and trying SupportAssist again, I insists on updating to new version, which it fails to do as mentioned above.
Having trawled through the numerous messages in this community about failed SupportAssist, one would have thought that Dell have paid attention and fixed this flawed piece of software.
It is correct that I do not really need SupportAssist, but I do like the idea of the various settings.
I suppose it is a bit like I don't really need the backseat in my car, however I paid for it and it is nice to have.
Since my computer is a few years out of warranty I must pay for support to help me.
However, I read that people have done so but never got SupportAssist to work.
I guess if Dell support can't get it to work, what chance have I....
Any help and thought are greatly appreciated,
Thanks

There are issues reported about installing the latest SupportAssist in Win 11. IIRC, it requires Microsoft dot-Net 5 (.net5) which you may not have on your PC. See if anything posted that will help you in that forum.

Thanks for your reply,
I thought support for .NET 5.x ended in May 2022.

Doesn't mean .NET 5 (or higher) isn't required for recent version(s) of SupportAssist.
