If your system is still under warranty, please contact support by clicking on Get Help Now at the bottom right corner of the screen to receive individualized support.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you're experiencing issues with SupportAssist not working as expected, we recommend starting with a clean uninstall followed by a fresh install.

  1. Go to Control Panel, then Add or Remove Programs, and then Uninstall.
  2. Afterwards, restart your computer (do not skip this step, it is essential to resolve the issue)
  3. Reinstall Support Assist from this link > https://www.dell.com/en-us/lp/dt/support-assist-for-pcs
  4. Click Launch and test the new version.

If you encounter issues reinstalling SupportAssist, follow these steps:

  1. Download the Microsoft Troubleshooter Tool, open the file, and click Next to run the tool.
  2. Click Next, select Uninstalling, choose Dell SupportAssist from the list of programs, and click Next to uninstall.
  3. If the uninstallation was successful, close the troubleshooter and restart the system (do not skip this step, it is essential to resolve the issue).

Ensure that the following five Windows services are removed from Windows Services when an uninstall is done and started when an upgrade or new install is performed.

    If they were not removed,
please refer to the video below for the complete step-by-step instructions:

I have the latest version 4.6.2

    Hi WjSturgis:

See employee Dell-Nat M's announcement in MichaelInParis's Any way to reduce the size of the DTPDB.DB file? about the latest SupportAssist v4.6.3 that began rolling out on 24-Dec-2024. There is a link in Dell-Nat M's post to the support article Dell SupportAssist for PCs and Tablets Installation Issue that explains how to perform a clean reinstall of SupportAssist if you are having issues with your v4.6.x installation, and there is also a companion video at Dell SupportAssist Clean Reinstallation for that support article.  A clean reinstall of SupportAssist might help if you have remnants of older SupportAssist installations on your system that need to be removed so they don't interfere with installation of the latest v4.6.3.

According to employee Dell-Brad L's 19-Dec-2024 post <here> in MichaelInParis's topic the SupportAssist v4.6.3 update is supposed to fix a bug that impacts system performance due to excessive RAM and CPU consumption, and a second update will be released at a later date to fix a bug that causes database files in the C:\ProgramData\Dell\DTP\DB folder to grow over time and consume excessive amounts of disk space (i.e., typically in the range of 20 - 80 GB).

    Hi dani6587:

What is your Dell computer model, Windows operating system [open a run dialog box (Windows key + R) and enter winver to find your version and OS build number] and antivirus?

User greg_pap saw the same "This is taking longer than expected. We recommend restarting your PC and trying again" error when launching SupportAssist v4.6.3 (see their 27-Dec-2024 image in ThomasAAT's Buggy support assist, new version 4.0).  Greg solved this error by performing a clean reinstall of SupportAssist to remove the last remnants of older SupportAssist installations that were interfering with SupportAssist v4.6.3.  Employee Dell-Nat M's 24-Dec-2024 announcement about the release of SupportAssist v4.6.3 in MichaelInParis's Any way to reduce the size of the DTPDB.DB file includes a link to clean reinstall instructions in the support article Dell SupportAssist for PCs and Tablets Installation Issue.  The companion video at Dell SupportAssist Clean Reinstallation might help if you have problems following the clean reinstall instructions in that support article.

NOTE: Greg's image is also for a non-English edition of SupportAssist.  If you browse to https://translate.google.com/?sl=auto&tl=en&op=images and upload the image Greg posted of their SupportAssist interface then Google Translate will translate the Greek text in that image to any language you prefer.

If SupportAssist v4.6.3 won't launch after you follow Dell's clean reinstall instructions then uninstall SupportAssist using Microsoft's Program Install and Uninstall Troubleshooter as instructed in Method V - Run the Microsoft Install/Uninstall Troubleshooter of the Dell support article How To Remove Applications, Programs, and Updates in Windows 11, and Windows 10.  Then reinstall with the latest SupportAssistInstaller.exe installer at https://downloads.dell.com/serviceability/catalog/SupportAssistInstaller.exe.

If that still doesn't work try uninstalling SupportAssist v4.6.3 with Revo Uninstaller Free in Advanced (aggressive) mode before reinstalling. I no longer have SupportAssist installed on my Inspiron 5584 (it was too buggy and used too much CPU and RAM) but when I performed a clean reinstall of SupportAssist v3.x I would always uninstall with Revo Uninstaller Free in Advanced Mode to wipe any orphaned registry entries and files/folders that were often left by a "normal" uninstall from Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features.

I was having problems with SA 4.6.3 using more RAM than it should and it was also slowing down my whole system. I spent hours trying to figure out why I was having problems until I spoke with a Dell tech rep and he suggested I uninstall SA. I used REVO. My systems works better-not perfect, but better and uses less RAM. I'm not inclined to reinstall SA.
