SUPPORT ASSIST WILL NOT INSTALL

Need to call on your expert help again folks please"!

Support Assist was hanging, so I uninstalled then tried to reinstall.  Not happening!  Argh!

Could it be something to do with BIOS?  Support Assist forced an install of BIOS 0.1.15.0 last week (through the OS) which seemed to install ok, but when I look at the Firmware version in Device Manager, it still shows version 0.1.14.0.

After past BIOS updates, Windows Update usually recommended a driver update within a day or two which matched the BIOS update number, but not with this latest update.

Could this be the problem?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Always include PC Model number and OS on any initial problem post.

First only do BIOS updates manually not through Support Assist.

I've had BIOS updates and no Windows updates afterwards.

Herre is the Dell Support Assist FAQ's and uninstall reinstall instructions.  See if you did it right.

Thank you @fireberd

Point taken - BIOS updates only through USB even though SA offers.  In this case, too late though as I have already allowed SA to update the BIOS.  Should I try to update it again?

Checked your link.  Uninstalled exactly as recommended.  I think it's the BIOS/Firmware issue?

Any ideas what to try next?

Hi All,

Does anyone have any ideas how I can install Support Assist?  I'm in dire need of help if anyone is able?

Thanks for your help.

To be honest, I have a 5 year old Inspiron laptop.   I disabled SA when I first got it.  I manually checked for any needed updated drivers and installed them manually.  As its 5 years old there most likely not be any new drivers (5 years is Dell end of life support).

We have seen many problems related to or caused by SA.  Unless you have a specific use consider not reinstalling it.

Could be some security you have is preventing installing.  Also run (install) as "Administrator" (right click on the install program and left click run as administrator).

@fireberd

Thanks for your quick reply.  I agree with you that Support Assist is more trouble than it's worth.  I have had my AIO for 6 months and have had non-stop problems with support assist.  I think it belongs on the trash!

FWIW, I have tried installing as Administrator - same failure (telling me to reboot and try again).  I think the manual route is the way forward.

Thank you to everyone who tried to help - much appreciated!
