Support Assist System restore is eating all my disk space

Dell support assist system restore is eating all my space.

Right now the file saremediation has about 80gb of system restore snapshots in that I cannot delete

I tried Dell support assist and when I go to system restore settings, it doesn't give me any option to turn it off or really any options at all.

When I try to do it through support assist OS recovery in the control panel it says this service is temporarily unavailable and try again later. I've updated it and even tried reinstalling it but it gives me the same option every time

Support assist system recovery is holding my computer hostage, it just keeps growing and growing and growing until I am out of space almost every single day

Hi Systemrestoreiseatingmyspace:

What is your Dell computer model and Windows operating system?  Open a Run dialog box (Windows key + R) and enter winver to find the version and build number of your OSIt would also be helpful to know if your Dell service warranty has expired yet.

What version of Dell SupportAssist Remediation is listed at Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features (not Settings | Apps), and please confirm that your Dell SupportAssist Remediation service has a Startup Type of "Automatic (Delayed Start)" and a Status of "Running"  I no longer have Dell SupportAssist Remediation v5.5.x (also called Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery or System Repair) installed on my Inspiron 5584, but if I recall correctly if this program is not installed or if the Dell SupportAssist Remediation service is disabled or does not start correctly at Windows startup then you will not see a setting in SupportAssist to enable/disable System Repair (see the instructions <here> in the SupportAssist v4.x User Guide ).

Here is an old image I captured on my Inspiron 5584 in Feb 2023 just before I uninstalled Dell SupportAssist Remediation v5.5.5.16458 that shows the Dell SupportAssist Remediation service was "Running".

If running correctly, Dell SupportAssist Remediation creates a new system repair point (snapshot) in the hidden, protected C:\ProgramData\Dell\SARemediation\SystemRepair\Snapshots folder about 30 min after you start your computer and purges the oldest system repair point once the maximum allotted disk space of ~ 15 to 20 GB as been reached. What specific subfolder (e.g.. C:\ProgramData\Dell\SARemediation\Snapshots\Backup) is consuming your ~ 80 GB of disk space?

Here is an old image I captured using TreeSizee Free (run with Administrator rights) back in Sept 2022 showing my entire C:\ProgramData\Dell\SARemediation\SystemRepair\Snapshots\  folder was only using ~ 20 KB of disk space after I turned off System Repair in my SupportAssist settings to purge all the system repair points in that folder.

IMPORTANT NOTE: There is also a known bug in SupportAssist v4.6.3 (rel. 24-Dec-2024) that causes database files in the C:\ProgramData\Dell\DTP\DB folder to grow over time and consume excessive amounts of disk space (i.e., typically in the range of 50 - 100 GB) on some systems.  According to employee Dell-Brad L's 19-Dec-2024 post in MichaelInParis's topic Any way to reduce the size of the DTPDB.DB file? Dell was hoping to have that DTP bug fixed in SupportAssist v4.8.1 (rel. 23-Mar-2025) but I haven't seen any evidence that bug has been fixed yet.
