SA, update BIOS problem
Last night, after I ran Support assist, I clicked on Update to get updated BIOS software. The "Installing" message stayed on for an hour with no indication of progress. I became impatient and clicked Cancel, at which time I got the notice "Updating BIOS, Please Do Not Turn Power Off".
Within a minute or so, an "Update Successful - Restart?" message came up. I clicked Yes and all works okay.
I have no idea how long I waited unnecessarily. What is needed is a progress bar or some way to tell the user when the update has been downloaded and is ready to install.

Appears that the BIOS Update Box, after the BIOS downloads and you click install, hides behind the Suppler Assist Program box. If it is moved out of the way, you can continue to have it install. However, I agree with the above in that the Support Assist program should show the progress of the download as well as inform you that it is ready to continue the installation.

Toughyear,
You should not cancel a bios update if it is in the process of updating.
Click my name and private message me the pc service tag number as well as your registered name, email address, and phone number.

I am having the same issue here. Support Assist says Installing.. but nothing seems to be happening. This is to update a XPS13 9365 System BIOS 1.5.0. Nervous to stop the program though...

I had the reverse happening, which is way worse.
The update assistant downloaded the bios update. The Install button became available, so I clicked it. It appeared nothing happened. After a moment the Install button became a Restart button. I clicked on Restart (assuming the Bios update would happen after restarting) which closed the Assist window.
Now appeared the bios flash program message, stating it is advised to close all other programs so they won't interfere with the flashing. So I closed all other programs and clicked on "start flash". After a second the flash program loaded and started flashing (to be clear, this all happened in Windows) and after 5 seconds the "Restarting Windows" screen appears. (I guess the restart action was activated when I clicked on "Restart" in the Dell Assistant and it just took a long time to progress)
Now this screen does not seem to make any progress, after 30 minutes I closed my laptop by holding down the power button.
Starting up the system again nothing happens. Only a black screen, keyboard backlight works, cooling fans test drive, etc, but nothing. I feel like the Dell Assistant bricked my laptop. This is pretty horrible, in any and all cases I would think the Bios Flash program should block Windows from restarting, or not start flashing when Windows is already doing a restart action.
Any ideas on how to recover from this?

I am having similar problem. The 4 box loading animation is going on and I don't know if the BIOS update is complete or not. Should I cancel as you suggested ? I am not sure if it's ok to cancel the BIOS update... Help me!😕

This morning, I agreed to have Dell SupportAssist update my Dell desktop PC, but it has been stuck "Validating..." the Dell Precision T3600 System BIOS v.A18 for about 6 hours now. I'm afraid of what might happen if I ask it to stop, or otherwise need to turn on this Dell PC. A 5.64 MB BIOS update file should not take this long to download, verify and install safely, or course...
This is what it looks like, below. (I removed the service tag number from the photo.)

Hello,
I used SA to update drivers for my Latitude E7250, it flagged up an urgent bios update which I triggered, it has been installing the bios for 3 hours and it hasn't finished, it looks as if it is stuck. what I do in this case, I cannot cancel the bios installation. all other drivers updates were installed successfully.
Please, may I ask for your advice on what to do in this situation?

I have the same issue as Mr Burns stuck on BIOS update not moved in 12 hours
Do you still reply to private messages about this issue DELL-Jesse L ?
The only option i see to have is to shut down the computer which may brick the computer
